“Triple mocha, half café late, cream, no sugar, with a pinch…just a pinch of spice.” It was the same order ever time. By now, the barista knew Atobe’s order well. He came to this coffee shop a great deal. He liked it. It made the best coffee and it always did it exactly to his order. It didn’t help that he gave rather frivolous tips. He liked the open air outside sitting places. He liked it because then even the lowliest passerby could be thusly graced in their day by having a look at the great and wonderful Atobe-sama. Besides, he needed a break after such a long hard day of tennis practice and other school activities. Taking his coffee, he went to one of his seats. The ones no one else dared to sit on because he was Atobe-sama and those where ore-sama’s seats.

Yagyuu was walking down the street, keeping an eye out for a certain coffee shop. He'd arranged with Atobe to meet for some...advice, and he didn't want to be late. Finally spotting the coffee Atobe had mentioned, he walked in, looking around to see if the other boy was there. Spotting him sitting on a chair, he walked over.

"Atobe-san?" he asked politely.

Atobe lightly placed the porcelain cup down. He looked up a moment later, dabbing his lips with a napkin. His eyes locked upon the Rikkai and he nodded to a free chair. He knew the other wanted to talk to him about something. It was rare that anyone from another school wanted to speak to him about anything. After all, there was his holier than thou attitude. Not that he cared what anyone thought about him. Still, Yagyuu was rather polite about his request and he was nothing if not generous. “Please. Sit down. Feel free to request a coffee. The baristas here do a great job making up a rather good cup of coffee.” He barely smiled. Just barely, it came off as a smirk. “I could just follow the Atobe teaching about business and pleasure and tell you to buy your own coffee. But it’s my treat, Yagyuu-san.”

"Ah, It's alright, I can pay for myself," Yagyuu protested. He didn't want to make Atobe pay for him, especially since he was the one who asked the grey-haired boy to come out.

Atobe’s blue eyes narrowed a little. It was a look that told Yagyuu that he should not deny a gift from Ore-sama. Because while it wasn’t rare for him to spoil his teammates, it was rare that he would do the same from someone not from his school. “When Ore-sama says it’s his treat, it’s his treat. Accept it. But I’m sure you didn’t come here for the coffee, regardless of how good it is. Why do you wish for Ore-sama’s flawless advice?” Okay, maybe he could tone the ego down…just a little… “Seriously Yagyuu-san…what can I help you with.”

Yagyuu nodded, "I needed some advice," Yagyuu said, having ordered a green tea, "I seem to be having a few...relationship issues."

Atobe blinked. Relationship issues? Of all the people to ask…him?! He, who’s relationship was sometimes classified as rocky at best and sometimes nearly obsessive at worst…on both sides. Him, who couldn’t even talk about things like intercourse because of his prudish and staunch upbringing. Because gentlemen did NOT TALK about their love lives, regardless what certain Osakan tensais seemed to think. He didn’t let the shock hit him long and put on his usual mask of indifference and utter confidence. “Of course. Relationship advice. Cupid himself has nothing at all on Ore-sama. So please, do go on,.” he waved a hand at Yagyuu…Like a king directing his vassal to speak.

"Thank you," Yagyuu said politely, "I seem to have...scared him away somewhat," he began. He was a bit embarrassed to be telling this to someone he didn't know that well, but Atobe probably wouldn't tell anyone...would he?

Atobe crossed one leg over the other and gave Yagyuu his attentive look. “You scared him away? I suppose I am assume that you speak of the bandana boy that you seemed to have hooked up with at tennis camp… How, prey tell, did you scare him away? He doesn’t seem the sort to scare easy.” Still, his flawless insight knew different. His insight told him that Yagyuu’s boy was more sensitive and easily startled than his outward tough appearance and insane amounts of stamina showed.

"Indeed. I believe he might have been...surprised by my family...unpleasantly," Yagyuu answered, sipping on his newly arrived tea.

Had be been drinking something, Atobe would have choked on it in a rather undignified manner. “So soon? You took him to meet the parents so soon after getting to know him.” Then again, Atobe had met Wakashi’s parents. He was putting off letting Hiyoshi meet HIS parents. He was, in fact, terrified of the idea and Ore-sama was afraid of nothing and no one. “What did your family do that would make him run from you? If it was your family, then couldn’t you just make him realize that you and your family are different people?”

"My mother asked him some...embarrassing questions about our relationship when she found out about us," Yagyuu said, stifling the urge to blush.

He uncrossed his legs and leaned elegantly upon the table. “So, your mother asked your bandana boy…intimate questions…” He sighed. “And how does that change things? You cannot control what sorts of things your parents ask. Perhaps you sprung the parents on his too quickly.” He lifted his own cup to his lips and took a small sip. “But, why come to me for advice. Is it not talking to you? Avoiding you perhaps? Because he’s embarrassed by thinking about the two of you in…intimate situations.”

"He's been rather...cold as of late," Yagyuu answered hesitantly.

Atobe thought for a moment. “Perhaps, he is angry at you…Or perhaps he is afraid. He could be scared of letting someone into his life… It can be…rather intimidating, even to the strongest of us, to find that we care for anyone.” He should know. “And having such questions posed so quickly, and without warning might have been the catalyst. Right now, he could very well be asking himself if such intimate encounters are all you want from him. Though I do hate to sound like Oshitari in any way, perhaps what you need to do is prove to him that you’re not just in it for the physical pleasures one can get. Or…you could just ask him why he’s so angry at you…Or do you already know that answer?”

"No, unfortunately," Yagyuu said, blowing on his tea to cool it off, "he seems to be avoiding me at the moment...I'm not sure how I might find him to ask."

Atobe raised an elegant eyebrow and smirked. “You aren’t a very good boyfriend, are you, Yagyuu? You don’t even know where to go look for him? Can you not think of one special place where he goes more than any other? Or perhaps just cornering him at his school and not letting him run away until you’ve had your say? Honestly… think about this clearly for a moment. We can’t always be gentlemen, Yagyuu. Sometimes, even fine upstanding citizens like ourselves must be willing to get a little dirty for those we love. He’s avoiding you because he’s embarrassed by something and you can’t even find him to find out why that is. And when you do see him, you let him run away. You want my advice…don’t let him run anymore. The more you do, the more he’ll be convinced that you don’t care for him at all beyond physical needs.”

"I suppose I might have an idea of where to find him, but...” Yagyuu paused, "If I force him talk to me, would it not be just as bad?"

He placed his cup down and crossed his arms. “Yagyuu…as much as I hate certain sorts of uses of force and as much as I detest the loss of dignity, there are truly some days when all one really needs is a hammer. While I’m not about to slap you across the face like your fukubuchou might, I will tell you quite plainly…You, Yagyuu, are an idiot. I’m not telling you to push him down and have your way with him. Ore-sama is telling you nothing of the sort. What I’m telling you is that you can’t let him keep running away. Even if he’s cold to you, you have every right to be heard. And so does he. Perhaps…a challenge to him. Challenge is fighting spirit. The winner of each set is allowed to ask the looser one question. And the looser must answer it truthfully. That way, win or lose, you can know what each other thinks. Because going about it your way won’t accomplish anything.”

"I suppose that might work.." Yagyuu said reluctantly. He didn't really want to force his new boyfriend into anything, but at least if he did what Atobe suggested he'd get to find something out, no matter which way it went.

He gave Yagyuu an imperial but annoyed look. It seemed to say how dare you question Ore-sama’s great and flawless wisdom “I suppose it might. However, there might be other ways. I’m sure you are trying your utmost to prove that there are still civilized people such as you and myself in this day in age. It is rather telling that you wish not to scare him further or push him too hard, too far, too fast. It means you really do care for him. However, he is the kind that it hard to get under the skin on. And there is always more indirect ways, though Ore-sama has never been a fan of those. He has a new kitten. Perhaps a peace offering in the form of a cat toy or something needs for the animal. Get your foot in the door at least, let him know you aren’t going to be pushed away by his cold. Though, I still think asking him what’s going on in the best solution to the problem….and if secret gifts to melt the ice or tennis to batter down the doors it what it takes, then so be it. It’s a means to an end, Yagyuu,”

"Indeed," Yagyuu began thoughtfully, "perhaps a cat toy would be an appropriate peace offering."

“And perhaps an apology. Make sure he knows just how sorry you were that he was put on the spot like that and how important he is to you. And while you’re at it, perhaps let him know how much his coldness hurts you.” He reached for his cup again. He still liked the tennis idea. Perhaps, for a fun relationship building exercise with Wakashi…

Sipping at his cooler tea, Yagyuu said politely, "Thank you, your advice is most helpful."

Atobe nodded and returned to his coffee. He smirked over the brim. “Of course it is…And Yagyuu, you are very welcome, and though I do not make such offers lightly, any time you wish to ask Ore-sama’s advice on any matter, I’m more than willing to give it. After all, you are rather pleasant company. But Ore-sama wishes you luck with your bandana boy. I’m sure though that you will get through to him and this will all seem like a very unamusing joke in no time.”

"I'm glad you were able to give me advice," Yagyuu said politely, finishing his tea, "I suppose I shall be going now."

“Oh course…Do have a good rest of the afternoon.” Atobe returned to his coffee after making sure that Yagyuu’s tea was paid for…as promised.
