Who: Ohtori Choutarou & Fuji Syuusuke
What: A little run-in at the music room and a little playing/singing
When: Today
Where: Music room
Rating: G

The music classroom was large and clean looking, a fresh scent of birch leaves lingered in the air. In the middle of the classroom was a grand piano, ivory white. Not quite sure what he was doing here, other than finding a place to gather his thoughts before he started on his first letter home, Fuji took a seat by said piano, trying the keys carefully.

Ohtori heard a few notes from the music room and peeked inside, hoping he wasn't about to interrupt someone's practice. He'd been coming here to practice his violin, to get her acquainted with the school's facilities, but he could always practice outside. "Am I interrupting?" he asked, taking a step into the room.

Fuji looked up at the newcomer, greeting him with a bright smile. "Of course not. I'm just fooling around. Let's see... If I remember correctly... You're Ohtori-kun, nee~?"

Ohtori nodded. "And you're...Fuji-senpai, right?" He stepped in and shut the door behind him with his free hand, violin case in the other.

"That's me." Fuji smiled and got to his feet, walking up to the other boy, taking a note at how tall he was, and extended his hand. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you in person."

Ohtori grinned and took the offered hand in a little shake. "Likewise. It's good to put a voice to all the comments in my journal," he chuckled, noting in the back of his mind that Fuji was short - not just in comparison, but on the shorter side even for average, not-absurdly-tall kids their age.

"I couldn't agree more." Fuji released the hand and walked up to one of the shelves standing against the wall, and picked up a small lyric note. "How cute, there are nursery rhymes in this one! And oh... I think I like your voice, speaking of voices. Ever thought of singing?"

Ohtori shook his head. "I can't sing at all. It's kind of funny, but...I seem to be terribly tone-deaf when I try, despite playing instruments," he chuckled. Fuji could probably sing, though. His voice was soft and almost a little musical just for speaking.

A thought hit Fuji as he stood with the lyric sheets in his hand, and he turned to Ohtori, smiling mischievously. "Why don't we try and play something? Or rather, you could play, and I'll sing! Just for fun." He added, almost as an afterthought, eyes glittering:

"And should you feel comfortable enough, you're free to sing along as well, so I can judge just how bad you sound~ ♥"

Ohtori set his violin case down near the piano and took a seat on the bench. "What songs are in that book? We'll see if I know how to play any of them," he smiled, adjusting the bench's distance from the piano a bit.

Flipping through the papers, Fuji soon landed on one of his favorites. "They have Moonlight on the Ruined Castle~ ♥ Do you know that one?"

Ohtori nodded. "Mhm. I know it on the piano." It was one his sister had made him start out with, when she started to teach him the basics. He laced his fingers together and turned the backs of his hands towards himself, then stretched out his arms and fingers. "I might be a little rusty, though," he warned just before he started playing.

"That makes two of us," Fuji grinned, clearing his throat. As the smooth, soft tones from the piano sounded through the room, he thought quickly that maybe he should have tried to sing himself up a bit before starting, but decided that this would have to do. He started to sing, a bit shaky at first but as he listened to Ohtori's tones it went easier and easier.

"Haru koro no hana no en
Meguru sakazuki kage sashite
Chiyo no matsu ga e wake ideshi
Mukashi no hikari Ima izu ko..."

Ohtori smiled to himself as he played. He'd been right - Fuji really did have a nice singing voice, and it sounded good together with the piano. He felt a little glad he'd had that bit of practice with Oshitari the other day, so he didn't feel so out-of-touch with the smooth ivory beneath his fingers.
A few verses later, Fuji stopped, pleased with himself and quite amazed by Ohtori's talent. "If you call that rusty, I'm almost afraid to listen to you when you're at your best," he grinned. "That was nice~"

Ohtori blushed a little at the compliment. "It really wasn't that good," he admitted. He'd counted his mistakes, like always, and, while he didn't make as many as he had with Oshitari, he'd still made more than he should have for a song he knew that well. "You've got a beautiful voice, Fuji-senpai."

Equally pleased with the praise, Fuji moved to take a seat next to Ohtori, resting his eyes on the ivory keys in front of him. "I'm glad you think that. I like singing... Even though I enjoy watching others preform even more."

"You mentioned something like that in the journal, if I remember correctly. Why is that, exactly?" Ohtori asked, curious. "I always feel like performing is more fun, knowing that I'm bringing joy to the people listening..."

"I think it's because of that, in some backwards way." Fuji chuckled. "I know how much work the performers have put into whatever there is they're doing, and that they wish to share their work and bring joy to people. I just feel happy watching that, people who either love bringing joy to others, or people who actually feel comfortable up on a stage. I love self confident people."

Ohtori gave a shy little smile. "I'd be a bit of a disappointment to you, then, probably. I'm not very confident in myself... Though my sister likes to tell me that I'm just too self-critical." His instructor told him he had a quiet confidence, one that didn't show until he was on stage, actually performing, but he wasn't quite sure how much he believed that.

"As long as you enjoy what you're doing, I think that joy is projected to your audience, and therefore I doubt you'd be a disappointment to me, Ohtori-kun." Fuji's smile turned warm and encouraging at that. "I think you should try and continue practice as much as you want, because you do have talent."

Ohtori chuckled softly. "And here you're saying that, and all you've heard me play is the piano." He knew that the violin was his specialty, and that if forced to choose between the two, he wouldn't even have to think about it. The piano was for fun, something he'd taken up to help him practice the quicker hand and finger motions he needed for some of the songs he wanted to perfect on his violin.

"Well... What can I say?" Getting to his feet, Fuji gently placed his hand on Ohtori's shoulder, giving it a light, encouraging squeeze. "I dare say I know good music when I hear it. Anyway, I shoudl be getting to class now. I'll see you around, yes?"

Ohtori nodded and smiled up at him. "Don't let me keep you, then. I wouldn't want to make you late." His own next class was music, so he didn't have anywhere he needed to be.

"Bye bye~" the smaller boy waved cheerfully, and as he left, he found himself humming the melody he had sung together with Ohtori.
