WOW.

I actually made it to my math class today! \o/ This is a great thing, because basically since the start of the semester, I've decided at 10am every Tuesday, I would much, much rather sleep than learn about math that makes me stare at the board like this: >:| (So far, I haven't been able to apply any of it until I've actually started working on textbook problems, but still. I imagine I look constipated very often. (Which is unfortunate, because there's a fairly attractive guy that sits next to me ;A; )) On the other hand, though, my math instructor is entirely too entertaining; I feel like I'm essentially just watching a watered down version of Rodney McKay teach remedial algebra to college students.

ANNND, because I just realized I haven't been doing this (and will probably jump around between different writings of mine):

QUINN HARDY. I imagine he's, idk, my second favorite character I've written (only behind Dallas, and that's only because I've been writing Dallas for so long, I feel like I know everything about him down to what shirt he wore on his first day of kindergarten. (Well, not that intense. I don't even remember what I wore my first day of kindergarten.)) BUT DALLAS IS NOT THE POINT.

Quinn is the point. He's, oh. l: Twenty-two, twenty-three, blah blah physical features (of which I feel like the most important part is his hair, fairly long, platinum blonde (which seems so out of place on a guy that's largely unconcerned with his appearance) mohawk) etc etc, but what I really like about him is his entire family dynamic, so idk that's what I'm going to focus on, mostly.

He's got this father that's a complete fuck up--he's in jail, but he's always been a figure in Quinn's life (unlike his mother), despite not really being a positive influence. Since his mother left when he was... six, I think, he's been living with his maternal grandparents ever since, who are entirely too supportive of everything he's ever done, including the stint he had involving the police and, yknow, being a suspect (which is a brief and largely unimportant point in the rest of his life, but it's a point nevertheless). His grandmother's probably cliche in that she's loving and caring and observant, and his grandfather's not all there in a way that has nothing to do with age, Alzheimer's or any other sort of age-related dementia. He's loud and opinionated and at one point, confesses to Quinn that he wants goldfish because "they can't have an opinion of you".

His mother's a fairly normal person, but is definitely, definitely unsuited to take care of a child. Betty gives him his mother's old journal, kept up until the day she left when Quinn was little, which, while it doesn't excuse her behavior, at least gives Quinn an insight to it. He's never blamed himself for his mother leaving. I imagine this comes from having such loving grandparents.

Bruce (his father) is sort of an asshole, and, if I remember right, doesn't know about Quinn's homosexuality, and really, not a good person at all.

Past boyfriends have also been pretty shitty, though I can't say I've had a lot of experience having to write them since Quinn's baggage is minimal at best. (he is the healthiest character I have ever written, honestly. I feel like he's completely unrealistic because of this shit he's got in his life and he's still just :D EVERYONE CAN BE GOOD; on that same note, though, he's not that great at consoling people when they're upset, especially if they're a new relationship, and despite his warm personality, he does have trouble meeting new people when he's out of his comfort zone.)

Overall, Quinn's entirely too upbeat for a character with all this shitty stuff going on in his past, but he's got insane amounts of support from his best friend, Tiny, and (his now husband) Scott.

He heads back to school for generals, eventually transfers to a university from a community college to become an elementary school teacher. He's a high school drop out, had a brief "I'm totes not gay" in which he used any available money for female prostitutes to prove that he's definitely straight (to himself), but ultimately, came to the conclusion that it's fine the way he is. (I can imagine that if he hadn't had the support from family and friends, it would've turned out much different.)

Scott wasn't exactly one of those things he'd really planned on, especially since Scott was his college writing instructor his first semester in college, and after a while of telling Quinn 'absolutely not, I don't date students' he sort of changed his tune and eventually gave in. (After I was well into Enigmatic Frequencies, I actually realized that this was essentially student/teacher, but I've never felt like that was their dynamic, mostly because Quinn seems like he has such a loud personality that Scott could never contain him. Honestly? I think Scott needs Quinn more than Quinn needs Scott.)

Hal. Hal is a fairly new person in Quinn's life and is hopelessly in love with Quinn, despite however many boyfriends he has and however long Quinn and Scott have been together and damn if he isn't still holding out some amount of hope that Quinn's going to be single again sometime. Quinn's had vague feelings for him in the past, but ultimately, yep, it's always going to be Scott.

MURPHY. I love writing Murphy, Quinn's next door neighbor. He's an absolute creep, likes sex just for sex, regardless of the gender of the person he's having sex with, and makes a lot of creepy advances on Quinn when he's living alone away from home. Quinn has to rely on him a few times for help, though, even though Murphy never follows through and Quinn is literally terrified of what might happen to him should Murphy ever get him inside his apartment.

I feel like I should mention Amelia and Riley, but ultimately, they're just girls that Quinn's met at school. Amelia's on this weird downward spiral and Quinn's not entirely sure how to go about it (or if it's even what's going on with her, because since he moved away, they don't talk as much), and Riley is this loud, 'fuck you all, I'll do what I want' lesbian that's amazing at math and is basically just a casual friend of Quinn's (also, his math tutor. Since he sucks at math).

Tiny's daughter, Ivy is a pretty big deal in Quinn's life. Tiny got a girl pregnant when he was eighteen, nineteen, and the mother took off (I'm sensing a theme; thankfully, the only mother's ever to have left out of the characters I've written are Ivy's and Quinn's), leaving Tiny to support Ivy on his own. Tiny and Quinn have been friends forever, and Tiny's absolutely terrible at helping Quinn through anything with words (but he'd be there to support him in a heartbeat if he needed it), and in return, Quinn's been like a second father to Ivy (or more like the older brother that teaches you all the pranks and tricks to piss off your parents, just because ultimately, Quinn can be really, really childish). Quinn absolutely loves Ivy, and for a long time, she's the only reason he finds it worthwhile to stay in his hometown. He does for a lot longer, obviously, but really, it's mostly Ivy. (In case it wasn't clear, Ivy thinks the world of Quinn, so. If she'd hated him, he might've just up and left.)

^ BASICALLY, Quinn. I mean, I could seriously write about him all day, but I'm a little sleepy and could better utilize my time avoiding housework by reading, so. C:

And Enigmatic Frequencies, in case, for whatever reason, I've sold you on Quinn and you'd like to read it.

It's written fairly weird--snippets instead of chapters. I count from 1-100, then back down. No idea why, but I guess if you need a reason, it's subtly representing the 'ups and downs of life' but that's not what I had in mind at all and I seriously just now pulled that out of my ass. :D BUT, at least I'm being honest about it, er, right?

as a very unrelated side note, today is one of those days that even after I take off my socks, I still feel like I'm wearing them.
