take a breath, type some things

This week has been absolutely hectic. I started teaching this week. I have two studios, 20 students a piece. I get to ramble about cultural lenses in design, show them the Power of 10, ask them about time and place, tell them about revealing/concealing and in/visible spaces, and on.

I sometimes lose them, I think. But my mentor/professor/dear friend is on a retirement track. He has also survived prostate cancer in the past year. They will never take his class [that I had TA'd for 5 years and took myself as an undergrad]. So I'm taking over his body. I have appropriated one of his mugs. It says "God danced the day you were born" and the letters spell out a queer rainbow. The place where our lips hit has eroded gold leafing. Someone has to lecture so that the content only hits them 3 years down the road. Someone has to confuse them enough to fall in love with curiosity.

Yesterday, I was beat. I lectured for 3 hours straight. And at the end of my second class, one student said, "Thank you, Sam!" and another chimed it, "yea! thanks!" and almost the entire class followed in suit.

Yea. My heart swelled.

Besides that I've had momentary breaks of dinners with good friends, knitting, laying in the park and eating dark chocolate and sipping on earl grey, going on rides/expeditions with my bicycle gang, reading reading reading, watching a few films, swimming, cooking, and very little sleep. I am a little stressed but I think I have a very full and nurturing life right now. If I could sleep and cuddle a bit more, I think life would be asymptotically approaching perfection.
