The day began clear when Melinda woke, but by the afternoon the sky had darken from rolling clouds and soon it was beginning to downpour. Since she didn't work on Mondays, Melinda decided to just brew the potion necessary for morning deliveries and nothing else. Using the backstairs, Melinda walked up to the flat she used after checking on the three cauldrons she had going and setting timers to reminder her to come back downstairs to add the next ingredients.

Humming the new song she was writing as she hit the last step, she looked up and screamed. "Merlin, Dad. You scared the bloody daylights out of me," she said to her father, who was standing over her desk that was covered with sheet music from Mandy and some of her own.

"What's this?" he asked, picking up some of it.

"Just something I'm messing around with during my free time," she said as she crossed to him and took the pieces from his hand. Melinda quickly gathered up all of the music and shoved it into a folder. "What are you doing here?"

Andrew looked at his oldest child before speaking. "I got a couple of complaints about the shop closing earlier on Thursday."

Fighting the urge to roll her eyes, Melinda apologized and explained that she had an appointment she couldn't get out of. "Since my only employee works in the shop one day a week, I had to make adjustments. I owled those who were picking up potions."

Mel's father grunted before asking where she went. Confused she asked what did it matter where she went. "Because what you do affects this company. Now, tell me where you were."

"I was out."

"Where?" he shouted.

"London," she shouted back. She knew he was getting angry with her, but she was getting just as upset with him. Since when does he care what I do or where I go? she thought as he demanded she tell him where in London she was.

"A night club, all right?!" she shouted. "I was playing music, okay!"

What happened next, Melinda was not prepared. While she knew that it upset him to talk about music and how much she loved it, she didn't expect his reaction. Andrew Bobbin exploded. He pulled out his wand and began sending sparks all over the place causing several things to catch fire. Shocked, Melinda send a water charm to douse the flames, which ruined most of her things.

"WHAT DID I TELL YOU ABOUT THAT?!" he shouted as continued to set things ablaze. Melinda was yelling at him to stop before he turned his attention on her music area. Screaming, she ran and stood in the line of her father's wrath. "Get out of my way," he hissed.

"NO!" she shouted. Flaring his nostrils, he turned around and began to shrink everything in sight, her desk, her bed and her clothes.

"Get out," he said.

"What?" Melinda watched as he shrunk everything in the room. Then with a quite wave, he sent them all to a single trunk. "You are no longer my child, my employee. I hereby disown you. Now, get out."

He said the last part in a deadly whisper, breathing heavy as he gave her a murderous glare. Quickly, Melinda shrunk all of her instruments and placed them into a bag she transfigured from one of the curtains, which were the only things left in the flat. Swallowing, she collected the trunk and apparated herself to the Diagon Alley apparition point.

She found herself standing in a puddle of water of to her ankles and rain pouring down on her. What the hell just happened? she thought as she began to panic. I'm homeless. I'm jobless. I'm… Tears began to form in her eyes as she stood in the rain.

"It's all right, Mel. Let's find a place to live first, “ she said to herself. “Bloody hell. I don't have any money." Merlin, could this get any worse? “Barter. Beg. You can find something.”

Melinda collected her trunk and bag and moved out of the rain under an awning. She didn't really have time to be looking through the classifieds in The Prophet for a place, but she needed an idea of places available. She thought she had read something about a new flat building opening a few months ago. Racking her brain for the address or even the name of the place she remembered, Contego Terrace With the name fresh in her head, she ventured back out into the rain toward what she thought was the right direction.

It took her several minutes and one wrong turn before she finally made it to the right building. Soaked through and through she walked up the front door and knocked.
