Hi everyone. New member here!

What are your opinions on praise-based training?  As in, no treats whatsoever... just "Good dog, good dog! Yaayy! Aw you're so good!" in an excited, high-pitched voice, and whatever furious head pettings and ear scratchies may come. :) I've NEVER met anyone besides me who's done it or believes it's possible.

Have you done it successfully before? Do you know other people who have? Do you believe that most dogs can do well with it, or is it an exception to the rule?

I used to have a Maltese, and this method worked perfectly for us. A trainer assisted us, and I've never heard anyone else able to say their dogs learned basic commands so fast. I think I would've gone crazy if I used treats, since Malteses are notoriously picky and I probably would've ripped my hair out trying to get her SUPER EXCITED for doggy treats all the time. Also, I didn't want to risk ending up with a dog that would dislike doing what I say if I wasn't carrying food. Instead, she got to wag her tail off while being smothered with love. :D
