So I play in an all night broomball tournament from 10pm - 4:30 am last night. It was quite a bit of fun.
For those who don't know, broomball is similar to hockey, although players don't wear skates, there is an orange round ball, and you use a shorter stick with a rubber end on it.
I've played broomball at Acadia intramurals for all 4 years, and it is a lot of fun. I have never once been on a good team except for this tournament.
This was just a randomly put together team, and we were quite good. We had some girls who play seriously and are going to Nationals and stuff, and just an all together solid lineup.
We ended up making it to the finals, which ended in regulation in a 0-0 tie. OT in broomball is apparently the stupidest thing ever, as it is 4 on 4, with no goalie, and no one is allowed to stand in the crease.
So, we had outplayed every team we had played, only allowed 1 goal against the entire tournament, and then the other team scores a cheesy open net goal in about 2 minutes and the game is over.. Cool.
What really surprised me about the tournament is that there were CASH prizes. It seemed really weird for a friendly intramural tournament to be awarding cash prizes .. But, it was 50 dollar entry for each team, and the winning team got the bulk of that money. We ended up getting some for finishing 2nd. It's weird, I guess that makes me a professional broomball player now.
