It's been two weeks since I last updated and that wasn't even me updating. And I wish I had the will power to delete you and just stop coming on to livejournal every day to read my friends page and explore other people's friends pages. Ok, time for a little pep talk... vade_mecum_ March 29 2005, 04:37:42 UTC
Darling, I know you feel like the fact that you aren't doing as well in school as you think you could be is going to hold you back, but in reality it's really our perfectionism that is the obstacle for people like you and me. If you're always obsessed with doing everything perfectly, you never have time to stop and enjoy and actually appreciate what you're doing. That's what you should be worrying about in life...enjoying things and being happy. Not how reputable the college you get into is or what kind of career you're going to end up in. So when you think about how things are going to effect the outcome of your life, try not to think "this missed homework assignment moves me yet another notch away from being successful," because then you're thinking of society's idea of success. Personal success is the most important...sucess in the sense that you feel happy with yourself and your life. And I think for you, part of that would be succeeding in being more relaxed, less worrisome. Otherwise, if you're always striving for the unreachable goal of perfection, how will you ever truly be able to enjoy things like theatre and art and music and cats and friends and livejournal and stuff? Perfectionism is simply a waste of time! We all have our ups and downs, so it's ok to allow yourself to slack off every once in a while. Chances are you need it! Just remember: sure, you need to get into college so that you can get a job and make money and survive...but survival means nothing if you're not enjoying life in the first place. So relax. It's ok. Just stop and smell the roses.
