All right, I'm takin' off my bra and gettin' down to an update.
...
I saw my father Tuesday morning. He didn't look too bad. Now, though? His right eye is black and blue, and underneath it, it's swollen and red. But he says it doesn't hurt.
Tuesday after work I came to J&J's, then went back home to be picked up by Kat. We went downtown for fast food dinner, then to Cass Park to watch Justin play. The game was going pretty well, except there wasn't any shade, so we had to stand back behind the trees on the sidewalk to hide from the sun.
I didn't see the play, but apparently Justin missed catching the ball and it popped him in the mouth. I only saw him walking from the field, cupping his hand in front of him. My first thought was, Inning's over already? The I noticed blood in his hand. My second thought was, Did he try to catch the ball with his bare hand and hurt himself?
As he walked further off field, his teammate gathered around him and Kat mentioned something about getting hit in the face with the ball. We both stood there with our hands over our mouths, not sure if it was his mouth or his nose. When he got to the benches, he drank some water and then spit it. It was then we realized he had been hit in the mouth.
After his teammates stopped hovering and the game continued, Kat and I went up and sat next to him. There were spots of blood on his shirt, and he had rags and an ice pack held to his mouth. He showed us and it was awful: his top lip was split across, with one small cut upwards. It was bleeding pretty badly, and pretty awful to look at.
But he said it didn't hurt. His teammates were picking on him, asking, "Are the girls gonna kiss it and make it better?" We had to make sure our boy was okay! When the game was over, we insisted he go to the hospital or convenient care, and was going to drive him, but he said he was okay.
He ended up going home first, and then was at convenient care until around midnight. He has around 12 stitches. I haven't seen him yet, but my mom saw him at work. I'll be seeing him tomorrow, so it'll be interesting. Kat and I are going to dote for sure.
