★ Professing our undying love for a song

May 05, 2010 23:58

This entry is probably the most stressful one we've ever composed in our 3 years of existence. ^^; Why did we torture ourselves?!?!?!? XD I know I didn't give justice to my songs! e7erlasting would like to add that choosing only one song was the single hardest task of the past month. Thanks a lot, Ria.

Here are our absolute favorite CJK songs~ We love them so much! You can say we're lucky to have found these beautiful gems of music because it's not every day you encounter something that really touches you to the core. <3

On a different note, we'd like to thank you for being with us for the last 3 years. <3 We hope that in the years to come, if you still haven't found that music gem you're in search for, may Popsicalove open doors for you to find it. <3

e7erlasting: 王力宏 (Leehom Wang) - Can You Feel My World (2003)
I love this song so much it really, really hurts. The way the intro opens with the surprisingly dark and gloomy piano and violin melodies simultaneously, the syncopated beat that claps in before the percussion, and the deep bass-y tone, all give me goose-bumps and continues to do so as the song progresses. The piano, violin, and percussion are weaved intricately into what I consider the best accompaniment I’ve ever heard. I adore that Leehom uses such simple musical elements, working them well individually, but bringing them together in such beautiful harmony, like they were always meant to be. Deceptively, this song is relatively simple, it has nothing fancy and it’s not particularly catchy. There is however, a perfection to it which tugs at my heartstrings and makes me pay attention to every single tiny element used to bring this piece together, feeling privileged being able to experience this kind of art form from a genius. Leehom’s vocals are incredibly earnest, inviting listeners into his world, where music at its most basic level is able to convey such feelings. There is hidden beauty to this piece - a little piece of Leehom’s soul - forming a bridge between him and listeners.

oct23ria: Leehom Wang - Forever Love (2004)
<3 FOREVER LOVE by Leehom Wang. I knew of this song because of Stacey. I remember being in an Internet café, talking to Stacey through YM. She shared me this song and it was love at first few notes, literally. It’s so beautiful. (Disappointing that I can only manage to sum up this song in one word - BEAUTIFUL) The title itself sort of brainwashes you. LOL. Forever Love. I also feel like crying every time I listen to this song. I love it how at the end of the song, Leehom sings airily, “forever love~”. It gives me the goosebumps. Argh, I’m disappointed I can’t fully express my love for this song. I guess most of us can say that when you like something, you can’t really pinpoint what about it that hit you. It just did.

e7erlasting: 宇多田ヒカル (Utada Hikaru) - Eternally -Drama Mix- (2008)
The re-release of the original song as this new version was like evolving from 2D to 3D. To me, they’re completely different songs. It brought every musical component to life and really let Utada’s voice shine. When I listen to this song, I hear and feel the music echo around and surround me 360 degrees, and it’s almost intoxicating. The strings are smooth and gorgeous, and with the slow, rocking beat, it feels soothing and lulling. But despite all the instrumentals, there is a mysterious, eerie kind of beauty to this profoundly emotional piece. I think that’s what draws me towards this ballad and that’s what makes it feel so different to most ballads. The original version does not have that special spark, but the drama mix takes my breath away as it builds, musically and emotionally. Utada’s voice is also perfectly suited in bringing out the bittersweet and vulnerable feeling of this ballad. Her voice is neither a powerhouse nor perfect, but it makes this song that much more incredible and powerful when you listen to it. To me it feels that much more real and soulful.

oct23ria: SOULHEAD - Sparkle Train (2005)
It’s kind of ironic how my two favorite songs are ballad-y when I’d consider myself as a lover of happy songs! But here comes SOULHEAD’s Sparkle Train to represent! :D Like My Everything, I knew of this song after seeing its music video, this time, at ANIMAX. ^^ This song is just rich in energy. It gives me the boost. Actually, even if you don’t understand the lyrics, you’ll get the feel that it’s urging you to follow through. My life's still a big work in progress but as long as I push through and do what I feel is right, I believe I'm going to live a meaningful life. Left or right, Front or back. I can choose whichever I like. Ah~ I live in my history. Everything is up to me~ ♫

e7erlasting: 신화 (Shinhwa) - 비밀 (My own secret) (2002)
This is one of two songs ever that made my heart nearly explode from the very first few notes. First of all, I’m stumped on how to describe the instrumental (particularly the instruments). It’s very light and soothing but at the same time, melodious just on its own. The harmony of the vocals is what makes me melt inside while listening to this gorgeous little piece. If it’s possible, I would describe this as powerful and soothing. The strength in the rise and fall of the dynamics of the piece, and the strength of the harmony and instrumentals are able to balance with the incredibly refreshing and relaxing “flowing” touch to them. It’s the kind of song that doesn’t quite fall under just one term. It’s a bit mid-tempo, it’s got some ballad flavours, there’s even some rap. It’s a bit of so many things. But in the end, all I hear is a big ball of HEAVEN TO MY EARS. I actually wonder if the individuals who were involved in this finished product know that they were playing a role in creating something so beautiful it brings tears to my eyes. I hail this song. The world is beautiful.

oct23ria: Brown Eyed Soul - My Everything (2003)
No questions asked. No second will pass. I’ll immediately say that Brown Eyed Soul's My Everything is my all-time favorite Kpop song. I can't remember when I first encountered this song but I know it was through its music video, which was played at Arirang TV's Pops in Seoul. If you're going to ask me what about it made me love it, I can't specifically answer that question. Every time I listen to it, it makes me emotional, especially in the "You are my everything~” part. This song pulled me right to the heart of my own pool of happy tears. Maybe there's a part of me who wants to say "you are my everything" to someone and also hear it from someone. LOL. So mushy but it's true. YAAA!!! I feel so naked by just saying that to everyone!!!
