This is NEWS' longest single since their first two (I'm sure you all wanted to know that and yes, calculating that was a productive exercise XDD). I think apart from one person, the other composers and lyricists had never worked on NEWS' songs before so this single sounds OBVIOUSLY different. I admit to being quite disappointed with Sakura Girl when I first heard it, because I thought it sounded like the middle ground between the recent Fall In Love and FOREVER LOVE (well Ria thought the intro sounded like Big Bang Lies, so anything is possible XDDD), and though the production was good, the melody was not "spectacular". My opinion hasn't changed but I have come to love the song a lot. I guess I'm just too much of a fangirl. ;) Sakura Girl's main instrumental melody is catchy treble synth-pop laced with pretty piano and strings parts. Though it starts on-beat and remains on-beat during verses, the percussion evolves to emphasise the off-beat more during choruses and other times (I'm a sucker for any form of syncopation ^^;; so maybe that won me). In fact the percussion throughout the whole song is brilliant, I could really feel the dynamics changing. I did also love the guitar that we hear here and there. :) Apart from the title track, Ana ga Tonari ni Iru dake de - As Long As You're By My Side - gained a lot of love from fans. It's a simple heartfelt ballad with a very generic beat. The chorus seemed almost gospel and reminded me of some 90's music because it feels like they brought in a 100-man choir to harmonise over, under and around NEWS (oh, another thing I'm a sucker for). FREEDOM is one of those NEWS tracks that confuse me and should not have come after the last track (however it's the obligatory fist-pumping, ridiculously high-energy song with fifty million instruments). Love Melodies is the same (but I was reminded of Arashi's Troublemaker when the chorus started =X). Sakura Girl (A capella version) made me laugh when it started, but after that it was so sweet and soulful <333 so I take my giggle back. :) Now someone tell me how the hell this couldn't outsell Koi no ABO (needed a DVD and more promos)! =O Anyway: complete NEWS 320kbps discography! I let myself go on a tangent~ T_T;;
