of 2007 has been taken and I am back home. Thank goodness!
On Thursday, Devin and I took off for the Fayetteville area to visit friends and do some shopping. Her best friend lives up there and my friend Melissa does too. Since Devin didn't have to take semester tests, she was out of school 2 days before the other children. So for a special treat for her excellent grades (all A's and one high B), I arranged an overnight visit with her friend. She was so excited!
We left around 10 and just took our time going up. We had a good visit in the car and stopped for (wait for it...) Taco Bueno in Russelville! lol. It just recently opened. Good thing Devin likes Bueno too! We got to Fayetteville around 2, and still had time to kill before our friends were available. Shopping it is! We hit the Fayetteville Mall where I used to work about 15 years ago. Wow that place has grown! Of course, given how much that area is expanding, its not surprising.
Eventually, it was time to meet up with Melissa and then drop Devin off at her friend's house. Her parents are very nice and I really like them, so its always nice to see them again too. Once we were child free we headed off to Rogers for shopping and dinner. I managed to finish most of my last minute shopping (and pick up a couple of the things Devin pointed out at Hot Topic at the mall). Then we had dinner at PF Chang's, which was fabulous as always. It seems like all I have done these last couple of days is eat... January is going to be cruel!
After dinner and a good visit, Lis and I went over to Kohl's and then Walmart. We finished up about 10:30 and headed to her house. She and I visited for a while, then crashed since she had work on Friday and I needed to head out relatively early...
I was dressed, packed up and out the door by 8:45 am, and wasn't scheduled to pick Devin up till 10, I hit another Kohl's and Target. There is did finish my shopping. I finally found Becca a Christmas Eve ornament and got gifts for the last three people on my list. The stores were bad yet, but it had that feeling that it wouldn't long till it was horrible. I got the heck out of Dodge.
Picking up Devin was a little trickier than it should have been, but it worked out. Then chatted with her friend's dad for a bit and we are trying to work out a visit to our house. Maybe after Christmas. Her friend is a sweet girl, so I don't mind a bit. Soon after, we were on the road home. Running late of course. I was trying to get to Becca and Tim's Christmas Parties at their schools.
Devin snoozed the last quarter of the trip, she hadn't slept much that night. We hit Benton about 2:15, which was pretty good considering I didn't get out of Fayetteville till 11. Dave worked from home and was able to get to the school on time. I was about 20 minutes late, but it didn't matter much. The kids were wild from all the sugar and playing and gift exchange.
All the classed did a book gift exchange this year... I thought that was pretty darn cool. Much better than more plastic crap in the house. (My mom will take care of that! I promise you!) I got Tim The Mouse and the Motorcycle to give and Becca Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of Nimh to exchange. Becca ended up getting one of the Harry Potter Books and Tim got two Disney books.
We grabbed the kids early and took them home. They were thrilled and there was no point in them staying. Nothing was being learned yesterday! We came home and I crashed in my chair for a while.
After dinner Dave and I were going to run to Target to replace his desk chair, which was broken. I didn't want anyone sitting in it at Christmas and tipping over backwards. Pulling out of the drive, Dave backed into a neighbor's guest's car. Crap. It was dark, parked directly behind our driveway and a black car. Oops. (Spoke to the neighbor this morning, its all worked out. No one was too worked up about it. Simple insurance info exchange.) We finally got over to Target and picked up the chair and some pants for Tim, who was walking around looking like Steve Urkle from Family Matters. A few stocking stuffers and some clearance LED lights for Dave and we were out of there.
Today Tim has a basketball game which I am about to head out to now. Then it will be all baking, all cleaning, all wrapping until Christmas.
