Tornados, Laptops and Mondays

My weekend was actually  rather calm given the events of the proceeding days.  Friday I spent baking cookies and a cake for a planned "sweetheart ride" for abate on Saturday.  We had decided to push ahead with the event even though the weather forecast included 100% chance of thunderstorms, flash flooding, and possible tornadoes.  Must be spring in Arkansas.

The reason behind going on with the event was that we were invited to another group's quarterly meeting.  Since it was local for them, we couldn't very well ask them to reschedule it.  I didn't expect a large turn out and I wasn't disappointed.  Besides myself, there was one other person.  Our district President.  We were smart enough to be in "cages" or as common people call them, cars.

The event was located in Stuttgart, Arkansas.  About 45 minutes from Pine Bluff.  (An hour from Benton if I went from the directly, an hour and 45 minutes via Pine Bluff.)  The trip there was windy and a little rainy, but nothing serious.  When we arrived, 3 of our other members who live in Stuttgart were waiting for us.  That made me feel a little better.  Better than 2 people at least.  The other group had potlucked a tamale dinner.  It was pretty good.  We visited and listened to the storm hitting outside.

Once I was back home, I found out 2 tornadoes (or extremely high winds, they are debating it.) had hit the town of Dumas.  Tiny town.  Lost several businesses, a subdivision and a nursing home.  Amazingly no fatalities.  The news reported "rampant" looting of the damaged Fred's store.  Apparently this town is small enough that "rampant" equals 2 people.  Dumas was about 15 minutes from where I was at most of the day.

Sunday was quiet.  Grocery shopping and Oscar watching.  Eh.  Color me underwhelmed.  I miss Billy Crystal.

Today has been a good day.  The very nice FedEx Man brought me a brand new shiny Macbook!  Happy early birthday me!  My other laptop had been dying in interesting ways and I was just about at the end of my rope with it.  I am soooo loving this computer.  I got to set it up all by myself, since Dave left for AZ today.  Easy to use.  Easy to set up and sooo pretty.  I might be in love.

Tonight I took the kids down to my mother's house while I attended a meeting for abate.  Meeting was fun and got to visit with my friends for a bit.  I have big hopes for a good week...
