A WHOLE NEW WORLD
Happy Saturday! I can’t say I am going to miss the week that just passed. Hopefully next week will turn out better with a new girl coming to work and to lighten the load on all of us also lightening the stress factor. But there is one thing that came of this week that was good. Because I worked so much I am going to have a large paycheck!
On a different topic of my interest…
As strange as it is…I got into an argument with the someone over the political correctness of the movie the Little Mermaid. The person told me that the movie basically shouldn’t be shown to children because it teaches little girls (because we all know girls are the only audience this movie draws…way to stereotype) that they need to change in order to get a husband or to get a boy’s attention…she said this is clearly shown through Ariel wanting to lose her fin and instead have legs… Being that the Little Mermaid is my favorite movie, never mind my favorite Disney movie, I couldn’t let this fly because the person was dead wrong. The movie clearly shows Ariel wanting legs so she can leave the world she is a part of because she doesn’t fit in to go to the world above sea in hopes that she does fit in…the incentive to have legs only grows when she meets the prince. It’s not like the whole half of the movie before she meets the prince is spent with Ariel happily flapping around the sea perfectly happy and then she sees the prince and all of a sudden wants to have legs… If we want to talk about a movie and musical that isn’t PC lets tackle Grease where she has to change completely in the end in order to date whatever his name is…
