I just got back from seeing the Exorcism of Emily Rose…and it was altogether a sour experience. The movie was ok…I was sitting on the edge of my seat the whole time, not because of any suspense but because I am deathly afraid of demonic possession. The movie isn’t exactly portrayed correctly in the trailer either. It’s not like the Exorcist where it’s about the gradual position of a little girl but rather is about the trial of a priest who performed an exorcism that didn’t save the girl and everyone assumes that he killed her. Any part of her possession is shown in a flashback…so the movie was quite boring and stalled in lots of places with lots of useless and uninteresting footage.
And as if that wasn’t enough the whole right side of the theater was filled with a bunch of apparently 13 year olds who couldn’t keep their mouths shut, their cell phones off, and laughed at every inappropriate part they could. You could barely hear the movie over their chatter and everyone yelling at them to shut up. Finally more than a few people made complaints and the kids were thrown out of the movie…but by the time this action was taken the movie was almost over.
And as if this all wasn’t enough to spoil anyone’s movie going experience…when my mother asked for a dearly deserved refund of the 30 dollars she spent for us to see it the manager patronized us and acted as if a crowd of kids (who probably shouldn’t have been let in in the first place) who couldn’t keep their mouths shut was our own fault, as if we brought the kids ourselves… Well by this time I was fed up and put this self important prick right where he belonged, not only arguing for the refund that he reluctantly gave but also took down his name and a number where I could complain about his attitude…last time I go to cross gates to see a movie!
