Hi Christine, just a gorgeous chapter here-I'm so glad you (and the lucky Em!) were able to get it out there. :) Here is my very most favorite passage:

Even underneath the dark rim of Jack’s cap they were clear and vivid like glistening gems, the warm smile on Jack’s face reflected in the bright blue abyss of Jack’s eyes.

It's interesting to see Ennis being drawn in before Jack here--I don't have a sense yet of whether Jack feels that spark, but Ennis certainly does. Nice job too of incorporating their first words from canon. I'd love to be a fly on the wall tonight and look into Ennis's dreams (sorry for the weirdly mixed metaphor, but you know what I mean!). I think maybe Jack needs some riding lessons too . . . Thanks for a great chapter. I can't wait to read more. xx Jen

Hey Jen, thanks for your lovely comment. I'm so happy that you liked this chapter, and that you notice that it's Ennis being drawn in quite quickly. I always wondered what Ennis was thinking about Jack during their initial meeting. And I loved writing the "nice to know you" part, because I love that part from the film so much. Keep holding out for Jack's thoughts, they will be coming soon. Thanks again Jen, so so glad you liked this.

Hi Rosie, thanks for your lovely comment. I'm really glad you like how it's going so far. And the bit about Jack complaining about the bed! Yes, very Jack. Complaining 4 hours a day, and more! lol And I find it really intriguing too how Ennis feels instinctively more relaxed around Jack and they've only just met. It makes sense to me though, so hope it will to you. The kids will be arriving soon....along with their hormones.

Oh this is very nice. It doesn't take them long to "buddy up", does it?

"Ennis switched the light off, lay down and waited for sleep to come. He knew it wouldn’t be long. As his eyes closed and he drifted off, he could still make out the million and one stars shining brightly, and wished on the brightest one he could see."
---Awwwwwww, sosweet. I just love romantic!Ennis and I have the feeling Jack will too! ;)

Can't wait to read more! Thank you for sharing this.

Hello samtyr, thanks for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed this. Oh and I adore romantic!Ennis too!! That's because I'm a complete romantic. I always thought Ennis harboured gorgeous unexplored feelings for Jack, but we never really got to know them. I hope to change that. Thanks for reading!

Ohhhhhhhhh I was so hoping they'd be in the same cabin! Wheeeeeeee! LOVED your nod to canon with their introduction and descriptions of Jack's blue eyes always get to me, yours especially did. So beautiful. Heh heh and Ennis is already blown away, isn't he? *Squeeeee* Your Jack is fun! And I'd loved him complaining away! LOL Also loved them going off to share a forbidden ciggie together. :) I too tensed up when they thought somebody else was there! LOL
I loved the second scene Rosie quoted too, it's beautiful. :) And your closing lines I also thought were really lovely:

Ennis switched the light off, lay down and waited for sleep to come. He knew it wouldn’t be long. As his eyes closed and he drifted off, he could still make out the million and one stars shining brightly, and wished on the brightest one he could see.I love Ennis doing woodwork and giving riding lessons. :) What's Jack gonna do ( ... )

Hi June. Wow, your comment was amazing, I feel a little overwhelmed. I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I had to have Jack and Ennis sharing a cabin - how could I not! lol I like complaining Jack too, it seems the kind of thing he'd do. Jack is a swimming instructor, so that shall be fun. *grins* So glad you like it, June and thanks for reading.
