Just finished my Art History paper. I got off work earlier than usual; my shift was from 5-9pm. I was glad nonetheless because I was able to add a few things and edit my paper before it is sent to Turnitin.com. I hope I did well... I am quite rusty in writing papers. Especially art analysis and art critique papers. I find it very difficult because there is no right or wrong answer in how you view pieces of artwork. So, you are the only one that can make the point. The painting or piece of artwork is already done and made. It is how you interpret it. Which is where art can be a hit or miss. Because really, what if Manet's known painting A Bar at the Folies-Bergere is simply about a woman who has an unfixed gaze that does not want to be submissive to men in the bar? What if Manet was secretly fascinated by women that he wanted them to present themselves in this manner because he too respected them? There could be more wilder things, but more or less...I do find it interesting that there are many references to Neo-Classicism and how Manet created an altered illusion of different worlds with the reflection of the mirror and the barmaid.
Anyway, I will be going to San Francisco this Sunday with my group of friends who are also my co-workers. I will be enjoying my day at the Planetarium at the
Academy of Sciences. I can't wait :). I love seeing the stars and learning about astronomy. It's the only science that I would put my time to study. Maybe some concepts...hehe.
That leisure day will be my last one I will have till the next few months because I must focus more on my classes (since Geography is really tying me down like a prisoner!) and my artwork. I feel like I am not committed to putting myself out there to get my portfolio done by the deadline. I don't know why. I have no sense of urgency at the moment. Maybe because school is really just so tedious that I feel like I don't need to go to Art School when I can learn on my own. I may sound really close minded because, of course one would learn an abundant amount of things from school. It is just how I feel sometimes when I think about school. Eventually going to school to further you education feels like a nag... Again that's just me and I may be change my opinion.
One thing that is positive about school is that when I am up early for the day, I am able to do other things that I wouldn't be able to do at home :P. Home can make you completely lazy! Just being out helps me a lot to not procrastinate.
I have been drawing more here and there. I have some trouble finding where my work is leading towards to now. I suddenly grew fascinated by textures and animal feathers and fur in my work and making them representational. I am very cautious about the quality of work I am making because whatever you are working on can have so much potential and value later on. I learned and seen that from my friend
Salvador. He has great work that is all through great use of supplies. So, this is something I am looking into for long term. When it comes to "using what you have", I think there is a certain extent in that...It is all about quality!
I will need more Moleskines and a better pen for inking...
Ideas...
