I love Katte. It's so wonderful having her around, because it means I can put the little things in perspective.
You know, the little annoying things.
The little things like booting your workstation and getting STOP 0x0000007B INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE. In plain English, it means Windows can't find your hard drive, so start making funeral arrangements for your data.
WARNING: BORING DILBERT-STYLE STORY AHEAD
It happened yesterday when power was flickering. My game machine kept rebooting, so I shut it down and fired up my workstation, which is on a battery backup. Flickering power shouldn't be a problem... except that apparently the battery is dead, so the machine rebooted at the first dip in line power.
I didn't try to play with the workstation again until later that night. I fired it up and got the pleasant message mentioned above. Katte laughed. I steamed.
So today I started the repair/recovery process, in the hopes that I wouldn't just have to start over from scratch. I don't have backups for a helluva lot of that stuff. I tossed in a copy of the Windows 2000 disk (my CDRW is flaking out and has a hard time with lots of disks) and started reinstalling. From scratch.
During the course of reinstalling, Windows decided to examine, and, if necessary, repair my hard drive. It found errors, rebooted, and booted into Windows. My old Windows. Wonderful, functioning Windows. I am so relieved.
SHORT VERSION OF BORING DILBERT-STYLE STORY
My computer stopped working. By a stroke of luck, I managed to fix it.
END OF BORING DILBERT-STYLE STORY
So anyway, normally a problem like that would have me fuming and obsessing, but I have Katte to obsess over, so it's just a little thing.
