Nighttime Visitation

Jun 22, 2009 10:47

Last night, in my dreams, I was visited by Dee Dee Ramone (1951-2002). We spent quite a bit of time together, and did a lot of different stuff. I won't go into all of the dreams, but there's one that stands out in my mind:

Dee Dee and I were both looking for jobs, so we compared resumes. He pointed out that mine just looked like a bunch of bullet points, but didn't gel together. He suggested adding a bit more of a narrative, to make it something interesting to read in itself.

I found his a little confusing. It mostly talked about things he'd been doing recently, with a certain emphasis on his solo projects.

I said, "Dee Dee. I don't get this. You sort of vaguely mention that you supported yourself mostly by playing bass guitar for a band based out of New York for fifteen years, but you don't mention that the Ramones was the most influential band in the history of rock n roll! What's up with that?"

Dee Dee looked embarrassed. He said, "I don't want to brag."

You'd think he could at least mention his lifetime achievement award and induction into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.

He wound up getting a job driving a taxi.

Now, what was Dee Dee trying to tell me?

punk, ramones, dreams
