When Susan Boyle learned earlier this week that she was going to meet the pope, she allegedly fainted and collapsed into the arms of the nearest priest.
As they waited for her to come round, organisers must have wondered how the famously erratic chanteuse would cope singing in front of His Holiness and 65,000 pilgrims.
They needn't have worried. Though her voice occasionally faltered as she sang Make Me a Channel of Your Peace, she held her nerve.
On Britain's Got Talent, she was notorious for inserting inappropriate hip swings into her ballads, but today she stood still and serene as she addressed the crowd.
Boyle had been told she was singing for the man himself - a "dream come true", she said beforehand. But by the time she took to the stage after the communion, Benedict XVI was already well on his way out of Bellahouston Park.
A BBC camera followed him closely for a sign that he, like tens of millions on YouTube, was a Boyle fan. But the pope seemed more concerned with reaching his armoured car than appreciating Boyle. It had been a long day.
