Worthy is the lamb.

I would like to thank blergeatkitty for recommending Rafiqi's a couple months back; it's easily the best of the three or four Middle Eastern food carts within walking distance of work. The lamb and chicken are both delicious; the hot sauce is bright, fresh, and peppery in about three different ways; I don't know what the white sauce is made of, but I'd buy it by the bottle if I could. And it's cheap; a meal-sized tray of meat, rice, and salad is under five bucks. It's for these reasons and more that I give the place my thumbs-up, even if the name does rhyme with "Rat Feces".

Also getting the thumbs up from me is my lovely girlfriend cricketnyc, who contributed a delicious cake and a delicious cabbage/noodle salad and a deliciously potent rum punch to my housewarming/birthday party on Friday night. I'm lucky to still have leftovers of two of those items to look forward to; it's only through considerable self-restraint that there was even any cake left by Sunday.

Thumbs-up additionally go to myself, for much of the rest of my party menu. My homemade pesto looked and tasted great on toast. The onion dip was made from scratch, forgoing french onion soup mix for real onions browned and charred over low heat (plus a secret splash of soy sauce); I thought it came out a little too bitter, but everyone else seemed to like it. My tomato salsa cruda was, as always, good, but the big hit was the mango/jalapeno salsa. Oh my loard. Perfect. I will make it all the time now, for everyone. You'll love it. It's a way of life.

We didn't even get a chance to make the queso fundido which was also on the menu. Maybe next time.
