I am finding it difficult to purchase a television.
My requirements are fairly modest; I'm looking for a TV set with about a 27" diagonal tube, with at least S-Video input or better, that is in good condition. Checking the Craigslist listings, it seems like I would have to pay about $150 for a used set that matches those criteria.
But if I raise my price range to $200-250, I can get a brand new TV, same size, with additional features like digital tuners and warranties that didn't expire already.
And then if I raise my price range to $350-400, I can get this odd little model called the
Insignia NS-27HTV. It's kind of like a HDTV but kind of not. It's the wrong shape. And kind of cheep.
But then if I raise my price range to $550-600, I can get a proper widescreen HDTV. Not that I have any proper widescreen HDTV content that I wanna view. The TV will mostly be used for playing video files off the Innernet, and sometimes analog cable channels.
I'm leaning towards the Insignia. It seems silly to buy a new standard-definition TV in 2006, but I don't want to spend a lot of money on an HDTV set until I actually have HDTV content I'd want to watch. This one seems like it would be a good transitional set, to keep me satisified until a few years from now, when everyone else has made the move to HD and it's affordable to everyone.
What say you people?
