Happenings.

Oh man, I'm really behind - I didn't expect my mom's visit to cause such busy evenings! Anyway, I've been reading everything but not commenting enough, ehhh. And I've got a lot of stuff I want to share with you, including some dumb drawings and etc., but for now, here's a random dump before I forget.

Dr. Sidle brought up the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass festival and that OMG GOGOL BORDELLO IS PLAYING A FREE SHOW?! Yes. Sunday October 5, 4:15pm. I have to go. *edit* ALSO IRON AND WINE AT 3:25 ASDLKFJDKL;LSKL

It's gonna be a busy week in October, as there's also Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book Tour... for us Bay Area people, there's a free event on Oct. 4 at 7:30pm in Palo Alto. There's also another event the next day in San Francisco, but it's $28 and it's at 3pm, which conflicts with gypsy punk music. But would anyone be interested in trying to get down to Palo alto on Saturday?

And apparently, I've missed the SF stop for this, which saddens me deeply. I mean, I already adore pie, but this is Pie Hole pie ala Pushing Daisies! Seriously. And oh man, new season October 1! This actually makes me wish I had a working tv.

THIS IS EXCELLENT. YESSSSSS.

Here's a video - I'm thinking mostly of you, RN.

As previously mentioned, a couple of my coworkers went to the Nick Cave show, and one of them wrote up a very cool review. It's nice because he recalled a lot of things I forgot in the excitement. Also, I didn't even think about cocaine...

Benny continues to be the awesomest of many awesome coworkers - he loaned me Lobster Johnson and Hellboy: Darkness Calls, yaaaaaay. And we always chat about weird geeky stuff. Recently I found out that he got the words to that insane Putin music video (original version here) that ADS showed me a little while ago...

Lyrics:

My boyfriend is in trouble once again:
Got in a fight, got drunk on something nasty
I've had enough and I chased him away
And now I want a man like Putin

One like Putin, full of strength
One like Putin, who won't be a drunk
One like Putin, who wouldn't hurt me
One like Putin, who won't run away!

I've seen him on the news last night
He was telling us that the world has come to crossroads
With one like him, it's easy to be home and out
And now I want a man like Putin

One like Putin, full of strength
One like Putin, who won't be a drunk
One like Putin, who wouldn't hurt me
One like Putin, who won't run away!

The English lyrics (all I've been able to find... good luck understanding the second verse)
My boyfriend is dumb, he smokes and he's drunk
My boyfriend is dumb, more than Powers Austin
I told him get out, I need a new boy
I thought and I know he must be like Putin.

He must be like Putin, that to begin
He must be like Putin, then I'll give in
You must be like Putin, there's just one way
You must be like Putin, you'll not run away.

Here's a bit of background from this blog:
Five years ago a mysterious Russian all-girl group, called Poyuschie vmeste , came out of nowhere with a catchy tune devoted to the Russian president called "Takavo kak Putin" ("I want someone like Putin"). The lyrics are about their regular boyfriends, who get stoned and have too many fights and don't look after them properly. They've had enough of that and are now looking for a man just like Putin.
But where did this girl band come from? No one had ever heard of them. Their CDs weren't for sale and the Russian radio stations didn't seem to know where the their copies had come from either.
Then it was revealed that the band's promoter was a press secretary from the Russian supreme court. The speculation was that the tune had been manufactured by the Kremlin spin doctor's in aid of the "Putin Cult Project".

I should also mention that I'm finally starting to be somewhat useful at work, which is nice. It's still pretty overwhelming trying to learn all this stuff, but it's getting better. Everyone keeps asking what my job is... essentially, I'll be working with various academic clients to design e-journals for their online publications. And one day I can maybe look forward to working with clients who publish such scintillating scholarly works as this. (This article is from one of our journals; I only noticed it because the abstract page is taped up on the bathroom wall. For the lolz, one assumes.)

And oh yeah, one of my daily tasks is killing spam in the message queues. Some spam text can be interesting - almost poetic in its nonsensical rambling. Today I came across this one which caught my attention... I've bolded the point of interest, which is probably of interest only to myself:

Aspireth, o bull of the bharata race, to affect in the shape
of fresh meatwas sufficiently needed. Greatcoat, and took
the name of evans. He arrived the portion of these rakshasas!
the learned man, asp. Believe me, 'tis a very pretty one.
evad..

Ambrose's people are in the spam, ahahaha.

Ok, sorry for the huge bizarro post. This is primarily for my own benefit. Tomorrow I have to do bank stuff and wrangle with ATT and pay bills, and then I should be able to get to some scribbles and storyjunk. Maybe!
