How is it suddenly afternoon now?
Hey, thanks to everyone who came last night! It was so great to see you all, and hey, we even managed to entertain ourselves without a tv. And nobody spilled wine on the carpet! You guys rock. Thanks also for all the delicious comestibles, oh maaaaaan. Next time we have to make that epic library movie with Gunter soundtrack, haha!
So my mom is on vacation for a few weeks and when you live in HI, you come to CA for holiday. She's been going around a bit and will be staying with me for most of next week. Fortunately, my parents seem to have gotten over freakout mode now that I'm actually employed, so I think this will be ok. She stopped by yesterday on the way up to San Francisco, and gave me a few things. So this morning I had manju for breakfast. Yes, it's eating dessert (stuff like this) in the morning, but pshaw. I CAN DO WHATEVER I WANT.
Uhhh just so this post isn't totally useless, here's some links. I haven't done this in a while.
I made a cake yesterday but forgot to add milk, even though I had specifically bought milk just for it. But it still turned out ok, thank goodness. Cake Wrecks, however, documents cake disasters. These aren't so much dealing with misfortune in the baking process, but rather horrible decisions of design and decoration. It's really hilarious/sad/awful, I love it.
I randomly came across this short film. Even though most of it's live action, there's a certain herky-jerky quality to the cinematography that's very animation-y, and I find quite pleasing. I was stunned to notice that the maker came from USC's Dada program (work that's cool and not utterly pretentious, no wai) and I checked out his site, which is rather impressive. I recommend watching the "All Remote & No Control" music video, which is very beautiful and disturbing. Also turns out the song is pretty good, too.
If you like turn-of-the-century illustration and comics, you might want to see this stuff on Harry Grant Dart, who has some interesting work. I think RN especially might enjoy his imaginative aircraft.
This is just something you should watch.
Finally, I keep forgetting to mention that I updated my links page a while ago. Like, a long while ago. Heh. (I did, however, tweak it again recently, after ADS got her site up and etc.) Anyway, let me know if I'm missing anyone or if you happen to be one of the people I made a banner for and you're horribly offended by that. I feel awfully forward and rather audacious, claiming association with some people I don't know all that well, but hopefully you lot don't mind? (You can picture me shuffling my feet and looking awkward right now.) Also, there are some people who only have sites on dA, and I kinda want to link to them but I'm not sure if I can/should, especially since dA is sorta... ehhh. So I dunno.
