Should probably specify that it was a $30 book and would be about that much to replace (it's cheaper on amazon, but requires additional shipping cost) that was bought new and kept in almost immacculate condition except for normal wear. It was not torn when I lent it out, nor was it run over.
It is paperback, but it's a programming reference book, so it's heavy on content and is considered part of the canon of knowledge for this particular language.
maybe it's just me, but i'd never expect to get one back in perfect shape. *shrugs*
