On a similar note, Ishpeming is having it's one day Renaissance Fair today (Saturday) at Lake Bancroft park.
I do have a suggestion that may work for you. Attend Fall Fest at NMU. It's the 1st Monday of classes (Aug 29, I think). The student groups have displays set up, so you could see if there's anything that interests you. For most student orgs, you don't have to be a student to join. If you do that, you may find some people who share some of your interests.
