What frugal feats have you pulled off this season?
Post your cheap and clever gift ideas here.
A couple of mine to start:
- I made a gift basket for my BF's mom & her boyfriend that came out around $15. They're restoring a boat and decorating it in a pirate ship motif. I bought a basket at a thrift store and filled it with:
- dollar store wine glasses that I etched with skulls and crossbones (using etching cream I bought two years ago & have used on several projects).
- paper pirate party hats, also from the dollar store
- a plastic pirate sword that makes clashing noises. I think it will look cute underneath the talking pirate heads they have in the boat.
- a $1 DVD of "Return From GIlligan's Island"
- a $7 bottle of wine. His mom likes white zinfandel, so she's easy to buy for cheap!
I trash picked most of the wrapping paper I used this year. The rest I bought from the thrift store.
I  rebates. BF's stocking is filled with stuff I got for free after rebate, including Old Spice cologne (cheap, but I love the way it smells), good razors and shaving cream.
I'm sewing gifts for a few people on my list:
- my girls are each gettin flannel nightgowns. The fabric cost about $2 per gown.
- They are also getting skirts made with very cute thrifted fabric, which cost about $1.50 per 2 yard swatch.
- My BF is getting a poet shirt like the one worn by Wesley in The Princess Bride. Took about three yards of fabric, at $1.99 each. Similar shirts sell online for $30 to $50.
