Once upon a time I had to read a play in college. I liked it. It was a downer, but it was good stuff. I may or may not still have it somewhere, but I couldn't tell you. All my books have disappeared except for some really dumb ones ( Read more... )

That doesn't sound familiar to me, but I did a little searching on google. Could it be "Candles to the Sun" by Tennessee Williams?

I don't think that's it, but thanks for looking! I got a lot of Tennessee Williams responses when Googling, too. For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to search for plays in Tennessee (or Kentucky (or some other state for that matter)) with any kind of accuracy. Rest assured though, if you Google "play" and "Tennessee" you'll more than likely hit a piece by Mr. Williams.

It's about a mining family, but I don't think it goes through many generations like the play you remember.

I think RJ might be on to something.

"A play in 10 scenes, Candles to the Sun is a mining disaster play, and an accurate examination of people searching for hope and peace amidst extreme conditions and crisis. Spanning nearly 15 years in a depression-era coal mining camp, the play follows three generations of the Pilcher family as they face mining fatalities, starvation, and the looming threat of a violent but necessary strike for better wages and safety conditions."

If you need to keep searching, I suggest you drop Tennessee, and go for "Appalachian"
