I watched the first episode while on a plane to Chicago, it felt as if it lasted forever so I was a bit hesitant to watch when the UK picked it up but I'm now half way through and I officially love it. It was a Stallone impression, of all things, that made me accept that I have fallen for a new show. Again it's strength is the relationship between the two male leads, I'm such a sucker for that. It's gentle and creeps up on you, it's a bit like White Collar in that regard. Gabriel Macht is working it and I'm also loving Gina Torres, such a perfect fit.
I knew it was going to be weird without Mitchell. I can't get around that. I knew George was leaving too but I didn't for one second think they'd kill him, ofcourse it was highly likely that no George meant no Nina. So we're left with Annie, Tom and Hal - the new (old) vampire. I'm glad they got rid of the other werewolf (oh, his line delivery annoyed the heck out of me..) and the ghost. Not a fan. Hal is promising but I feel as if we've seen it all before with Mitchell. The first episode I loved but since then...I guess I'm just sulking.
I'm liking the balance they've struck with the big bad and the hunting jobs this season. Six felt like they tried for too much, Seven is a bit more collected in that respect. What hasn't changed though is the outlook, still as bleak as ever. You don't really know which brother to hug harder. Dean up until the last few episodes was drinking his way through the day while Sammy has finally succumbed to Lucifer. It's as if they're having a competition to see who's the most screwed up, a competition Sam has just won.
I liked how they've planted the seed that possibly Bobby is still hanging around, some glimmer of hope that these boys aren't quite alone so I'm hoping they keep that going. It'd be nice if a spirit was there to look over them instead of harm them, for a change. I also liked how we saw, once again, how Dean is the ultimate fanboy and the ultimate child. They fight demons and other such monsters but clowns still freak Sam the hell out, the boy with Lucifer in his head. Speaking of, only the Supernatural fandom could rejoice over the return of Lucifer. I love how he's being played as a child who's having a tantrum which makes him slightly more sinister. Sam let Luci back in to help Dean, is there anything these boys won't do for each other?
I'm excited about what's to come. SPOILERS (Highlight to read) Sam going all one fry short of a happy meal and the return of a certain somebody in a storyline I'm muchly anticipating. Sadly, this means more man pain for Dean. The writers know us so well.
