Come From Away: a story of kindness, compassion, and healing

Nov 15, 2019 12:01

Hi all! I didn't mean to drop out of sight again; it wasn't intentional; it's just that I'm spending most of my time in face-to-face contact with people and offline pursuits rather than online -- as I'm sure you can relate, it seems like every time I take a look at social media, there's so much upsetting news that I regret looking, and then I step away from my electronic devices again.

However, this week
dragonydreams and I saw the national Broadway tour production of Come From Away in Boston, and it was such a breath of fresh air - a moving story of kindness, compassion, and healing. Both of us came out of it saying "I want to see it again!" Live theater prices are outrageous these days, but this was worth every penny - if the tour comes near you, I hope you consider going to see it.

The show tells the story of how the residents of several small towns in and around a huge airport in Gander, Newfoundland, cared for the "come from aways" on the 38 planes that were diverted to Gander after the American air space was closed on September 11, 2001.

My father's parents were born and raised in Newfoundland; I wish they were still alive so I could take them to see the show - I think they'd be proud.
