the capricious depredations of Hurricane Ray

I kind of love you for this.

Now we remember why we don’t go to bed sober, don’t we, Nathaniel?

No, he doesn't have PTSD at ALL!

“Unhand me, specter!” he declaimed, and giggled, shoving his bad hand in the Brad-shape’s face. “Unhand, get it? ‘S funny. Like Shakespeare.”

AHAHAHAHA!

“You know how when they cut your leg off, you can still feel the leg even though it isn’t there anymore? And it itches and hurts, but there’s no way to soothe it?”

Holy shit, dude. There's a way to describe it.

“Fix this, Nate,” he said, and it was half a demand and half a plea. “I want my friend back.”

Aww, Walt!

“Kid would have made a good Marine,” he remarked, “once he was trained out of telegraphing his moves like that.”

HAAA! Of course Brad saw it coming. Iceman knows what you'll do before you even know.

“I remember thinking, if there were just one, just one officer I could have put my faith in… but there wasn’t.” He shrugged. “So I left. It killed me to do it, but I did. I still can’t decide if I regret it, but there it is.”

Wow. Love that, the way a slight change - no Nate in the Corps - can alter the course of events. Really nice.

Nate shifted uncomfortably. He hadn’t regarded that as one of his finer moments, personally, losing his temper like that.

Of course Brad would admire him for it. Heh.

I think I preferred Walt’s welcome,” Brad said to Nate, mournfully.

AHAHAHAHA!

“Man, it’s fucking creepy when they do that telepathy shit, I swear.”

Lies!

I hate country music only slightly less than Brad does. Go figure, eh?

SO MUCH THIS! Brave of you to attempt it, given such reservations, and the result is all the more impressive! This is a fabulous first piece of fic - and I think there's a catch there, like, oh, you're a professional writer or somesuch - and it's incredibly impressive that you could capture their voices and keep the story moving. Basically, you rock.

And you know, I wasn't even thinking of that when I started writing Brad's speech there, but then it just made so much sense. Because seriously, how much more would Iraq have sucked for First Recon without Nate there? I'm thinking, A LOT.

*grin* I'm going to take that for the amazing compliment it is. I'm so pleased you like it; consider it a bit of a thank-you for all the awesome GK fic you've provided for me to enjoy. I seriously think I was really lucky to stumble upon this fandom.
