on doctors

doctors appointments today seem so very impersonal and more like a factory production line. you get a whole 15 minutes to explain to the doctor what the problem is befor you are rushed out the door with a handful of prescriptions and lame excuses.

this is all very well for me, who's mother was a nurse, and i have a good working knowledge of my own body and how it works, or doesn’t work, so i can quite happily go in to said doctors and tell them what i want in a language that they will understand and because i am all with the assertiveness when telling them how it is. (aka this is the problem, it needs to be fix. can i have a referral to a specialist, no i don't have medical insurance, i'm a student duh, again no i can't get my mother to pay for it as i am 36 and a grown up, and once again no i don't have medical insurance so write the damn letter and be done with it, oh and can i have another prescription for Naprogesic thanks)

but still you have to wonder about people who don't have mothers who were nurses, and or don't really have working knowledge of how their body works, or are shy about their bodies etc etc.. it must be difficult to get your point across and what makes matters worse, doctors seem to be more interested in getting you out the door rather than taking the time to find out what is actually wrong.

gone it seems are the days when you had a family doctor, who had known you since birth, and knew where most of your scars came from cause they stitched them up. today it is all impersonal and more like a production line

right then I’m off to ring the radiology people cause they have the warm jelly..
