Oh No They Didn't or Ten Fics featuring Crack or Tropes in Bandom ...( and were terrific!)
Hi this is
wishfulclicking again!
So this time around I am reccing in my current playground: bandom. This list celebrates stories that fall into the following categories: crack and trope. I'm sure everyone has encountered summaries or story ideas that made them pause and wonder if it would really work or made them think 'but everyone has done that, what could possibly be fresh about this?'. Well these stories are all just wonderful to me. The defining feature of all of these stories is that they handled their premise excellently.

Life in the rock ('n' roll) pool by

So if someone told you that they made all of bandom various underwater creatures, you might be inclined to say 'WTH? I am not reading that'. If you did keep that sentiment, you are missing out on a great story. The story features Brendon as a male seahorse who is left impregnated by his 'girlfriend'. Spencer steps up to take care of him. This universe features many bands (TAI, MCR, FOB, CS, The Cab) and it has an awesome sequel, which I recommend to everyone.
Pete was, as per usual, clinging to Patrick, who waved all of his arms in hello as Brendon and Spencer glided towards them.
“Ugh,” Patrick said, obviously trying to sound annoyed. “Pete, get off me, you fucking limpet.”
Pete made a small hurt noise. “I can’t help it,” he said. “I am a fucking limpet. And if you weren’t so attractive, I wouldn’t want to cling to you, you know. It’s not my fault you’re my star, Patrick.”
The Boys are too Stereotypical by

So you know all those 'standard' characterizations that people love in bandom? Well this fic takes all of these stereotypes (table & Bden = OTP, bully!Jon, sexcrazy!Gabe, etc.) and make them so hilarious! The main afflicted band is PATD, but Gabe and William make memorable experiences.
When everyone was sorted out and only the members of Panic at the Disco were left, Spencer let out a weary sigh. "I don't think I even remember all of what happened."
Brendon was sitting very, very quietly in the corner of the room, staring at his hands.
"Let me guess," Ryan said slowly, "you do."
"I - um." He winced a little. "I'll buy you a new coffee table, Spencer, I swear."
Spencer stared at him blankly. "Okay, I don't even want to know."
Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe by

This fic is not really crack at all; the only reason I put it in this list is it references a rumor that has spawned some crack stories. You may have heard that table rumor concerning a Mr. Urie. There is a part in this fic that references it and it is comic gold!
“Brendon,” Spencer says, his voice edging into something hysterical. “Brendon, tell me I did not just see you orgasm onto your coffee table.”
The Best Worst Apocalypse Ever by

So everyone knows that MCR would be ultra-prepared if there was a zombie uprising. This entire fic is hilarious, and everyone has probably already read it; but you should go read it again.
“...Oh my God,” Pete says. “You've trained for this. You totally have, likes, moves planned out for the vompire apocalypse!”
Gerard glares at him. Pete would be totally scared, except he's faced down Spencer after the kid caught him and Ryan messing around. “I do not.”
“He does,” Mikey calls from his spot on the floor. “He has evacuation plans for every single motel we've ever stayed in, too.”
“I will kill you,” Gerard says, “for lying. Isn't he a horrible liar? He's a horrible liar.”
“Your face is like, fuchsia,” Bob says.
Panic at the Barn Raising by

(PATD, Brendon/Spencer, PG-13)
The idea of making the Panic boys ( minus Jon) Amish could have been played for jokes. While there is humor in here (Ryan vs horse), this story has such good moments of emotion. Everyone is characterized wonderfully here.
"Horses are Satan's chosen pets." Ryan manages to convey a world of hatred without an iota of actual inflection as he wrinkles his nose and runs the brush over Muffin's hindquarters. Spencer meets his eyes over the mare's back, raising an eyebrow questioningly. "Think about it - the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, that has to be portentous."
Spencer rolls his eyes at his best friend, releasing his sarcasm in this safe-haven from a lecture about strife and vainglory. "Just because they enjoy tossing you around like a child's plaything doesn't make them hell-beasts, Ryan."
This has been done so many times...(but it is still fantastic!)
I'm Coming Out -- I have been reading in various fandoms for a while now; and I have encountered a number of 'coming out' stories. Some people handle this topic well, some people just don't.
This is a Public Announcement (and You're the only One Who Knows) by

I love how the author conveys Brendon's growth and confusion. Also, Jon is awesome in this!
He knows what homosexuality is, and how it's a sin, but Brendon doesn't connect his feelings to that big sin, though sometimes in the middle of church he panics, because someone might be able to see inside, see what he's thinking, the path he might go down. Still, all Brendon's really done is think about boys more than girls, and sometimes he has dreams about kissing the sandy haired boy, or a stranger, and wakes with his skin hot and his body doing things he's not supposed to think about.

What happens when someone is forcibly outed? In this story, Jon and Spencer are caught having sex in public and are outed. I love how the author shows different attitudes about sexuality and gender. *Bisexuality is not a myth* :)
It’s different now, the shows and the meet and greets and talking to the solid wall of girls at the barricade afterwards. Spencer doesn’t think that the others feel it the same way he does. Brendon and Jon just smile benignly, joking with the fans about how the kids at school are going to be so jealous. Jon actually signs more bras now than he ever has before, which is endlessly hilarious to both him and Ryan. The girls apparently don’t know what the word “bisexual” means, if they think that renders Jon a safe option for getting up close and personal with their tits. The biggest change for Spencer is the number and variety of propositions he gets. Apparently, confessing a fondness for dick is just making the bold ones get creative.
HighSchool AU -- For some reason, everyone loves placing their favorite fandom characters in high school. There are a number of excellent HS fics in bandom...and I can't rec them all; but this is one of my favorites.

I really feel that everyone has read this; but this is seriously one of my favorites. Everyone is perfect and this. This story is hilarious and there are so many pairings.
Wentz finished jogging his way up to Patrick, staring at him with wide eyes. “Hey, hello, hi. Hi. I’m Pete Wentz. I don’t know you, who are you?”
Patrick removed his headphones and blinked. “What?”
“Me Pete Wentz,” Wentz said, in a passable imitation of a monkey. “You…?”
“Um, Patrick Stump?”
“Patrick Stump,” Wentz echoed, kind of breathless. What, was he winded? Patrick kind of thought athletes were supposed to be in better shape. “Patrick Stump, Patrick, Trick, you need to sing again.”
“Sorry, I need to what?” Patrick said. He did a quick survey of the field, his head echoing with a slightly panicked mantra of I need an adult, I need an adult.
Crossovers -- I think every fandom has crossovers. Some of these work really well. Others do not. These last recs are crossovers in bandom that I really enjoyed. (There are way more, but I am trying to not go for the ones that everyone has read.)
The Art of Losing by

(Friday Night Lights/ MCR, gen, PG)
In this fic, Mikey Way and Tim Riggins switch bodies. MCR, predictably, decide to combat this evil based on Gerard's comic book knowledge. If you are not familiar with Friday Night Lights, then you just need to know that Tim Riggins is a football player. Also, the villain is hilarious in this! Bob and Ray are competent and skillful.
Gerard kept sticking his head out of the back lounge to ask Tim questions: Could he recite Smashing Pumpkins lyrics? Hey, Frank, grab the camera - did he know how to dance? How did his head feel? Just answer instinctively, what was Mikey thinking of right then?
Tim did a lot of glaring in response. After the fourth time Gerard asked him how he felt, he finally snapped, “Like kicking your ass.”
Gerard flounced off to the back lounge. Bob gave him an amused look.
Yeah, Tim definitely missed Dillon.
Without a Change (We're Going Fast) by

First--All American Rejects need more love! This fic recasts the Snow White fairytale with bandom people. Tyson is the beautiful Snow White and William is the 'evil' stepmother. Panic at the Disco + Fall Out Boy are the dwarves! Epically awesome are two words that could describe this fic.
The busker stood alone, an acoustic guitar slung over his shoulder. His mouth wasn't moving, but Tyson swore the busker was singing. His whole person rang out with enthusiasm and happiness, like there was nothing in the world he'd rather be doing. It was as though there was no one in the world but him and his guitar. Tyson thought if that were true, it would be no bad thing.
I've had a really good time this month. This is my first time participating in this----everyone has been fantastic with their recs! I hope you guys have discovered some cool fic with this list--or at least remembered how great these were.
