Neglected Fandom Recs - Everwood

Here are my very favorite Everwood fics. Most of them are Bright/Ephram slash, because it’s one of my favorite pairings. Most of them are also set early on in the show because everyone really stopped writing a lot of Everwood fics after the first couple of seasons. Anyway, hope you enjoy them!

‘Someone knocked just as he was willing Bright to show up. He decided to use his powers for evil. Concentrating on the door, he tried to make it open, but after a few seconds, realized how silly he was being and jumped up to answer it.’
Ephram and Bright assemble a photo album for Amy. And watch movies. And make out. This fic isn’t particularly serious or plot-driven. However, it’s fairly well-written (there’s one sentence that always annoys me, but I think it’s mild enough that this still qualifies as a good fic) and it’s cute and sweet.

An Officer and a Gentleman (and Sequels: Deconstructing Ephram and Fairytale of New York) by Marleigh
(from Deconstructing Ephram) Seduction wasn't Ephram's game. He was all snark and reciprocation. The pursued, not the pursuer. The wooee, not wooer. Was wooer really a word? Was wooee?
Why did he care?
An adorable and extremely funny trilogy. The second is my favorite, but it really isn’t complete without the other two. It takes place after Ephram has lived in New York for quite a while. On a trip back to Everwood, Ephram runs into Bright, and after his return they keep up an email correspondence before Bright comes to visit New York. I think my favorite thing about it may be the little details included about New York. I was born in NYC, and a clincher for me is always a really wonderful description of the city, but even if you’re not a fan of the Big Apple, there are plenty of other reasons to love the series.

Therapy by lalejandra
While the needles were going in and out of her back, Amy thought about Colin. The good stuff and the bad stuff, and all the confusing stuff. She'd never get to feel his touch again, but while she had his touch, it was good. She would never have his children or wake up next to him or feel him inside her -- but she kissed him and planned with him and told him she loved him before he died. Who could want more than that? Was it selfish to want more than that?
Ephram, Laynie, and Bright take Amy to Denver to get a tattoo of Colin’s numbers. They get snowed in and spend the night in a hotel. Lalejandra is a wonderful writer, and I’ll probably rec her too much, but I think she’s the best Everwood writer out there. She does Amy’s voice wonderfully - she’s one of the few authors who doesn’t make Amy incredibly annoying - and I think this fic deals really well with
Amy trying to move on, and not being able to even though she wants to. It does have a little bit of Laynie/Amy femmeslash, as well as Bright/Ephram, but even though I personally think Amy is completely straight, it’s believable.

Circles and Circles and Circles Again ( Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) by lalejandra
(from Part 1) It took a long time, and a lot of vodka, resolutions be damned, but Ephram did figure out what the problem was. Bright never said things he didn’t mean, because it wouldn’t occur to him to bother lying about stupid shit. And yet Bright had said, “We’ll keep in touch, dude”-but had never emailed him. Or called. Or written. Or even told Delia to tell Ephram that he said hi.
This is a classic Everwood fic. I actually think that all of lalejandra’s fics may be classics, but this one is especially wonderful. It’s set several years in the future, when Ephram has moved back to New York City. lalejandra describes NYC wonderfully, and I think that’s half the reason I love this one so much, but it’s also amazingly well-written and so much fun to read.

Evolution by lalejandra
Bright thought girls were hard, but Ephram... Ephram was like learning French. First all the letters, and the alphabet sounds, and then they changed when you put them together, and then they changed when you conjugated them, and then they changed when you were asking a question, and that was just like Ephram. Every time a variable changed, Bright had to relearn everything he thought he knew.
Again, a lalejandra fic. It’s a wonderful one, though. It’s rare to get a fic that’s mostly from Bright’s point of view. I think that Ephram is a lot easier to write, and so most authors write his pov, but this fic is multi-chaptered and mainly from Bright’s pov, and it’s beautifully done. It’s sweet and hot and funny and…just read it.

We’ll Always Have Paris by amelia_kay
Out of all the cities they visit, Paris is Bright's favorite. And not just
because Ephram grins his first real grin in months when Bright stands at the top
of the Eiffel Tower and shouts, "I'm king of the world!" with his arms above his
head, while the concierge looks on and sighs at the stupid Americans.
Cute, cute little fic. It’s basically gen, about a trip that Bright and Ephram take to Europe. It’s from Bright’s pov, and amelia_kay doesn’t write Bright quite the way I imagine him, but she does write him well. It’s nothing earth shattering, but it’s so sweet and the ending always gets me.

Cold Night by Leah K.
Bright's maybe a little bit in love with you, and you're fine with that, you're maybe a little bit in love with him. This whole situation just feels surreal. Your girlfriend just left you and you're stuck in Le Roy with your maybe-gay best friend.
After Madison leaves, Bright takes Ephram for pancakes. This fic is written in second person pov, which I know annoys a lot of people, but I personally don’t mind it. I think that even if it does normally annoy you somewhat, this fic is worth it. It’s just completely adorable.

Crush by Zeelee (or Zee)
"Why do I do this? Why do I keep falling for girls that make me fucking masochistic?" He turns and glares at Bright, as if this is Bright’s fault.
"Maybe it’s because you’re not supposed to be with *girls,*" Bright says. Reasonably, he feels.
This is another one of my very favorite Everwood fics, so I figured it was a good one to finish with. It’s from Bright’s point of view, and I think Zeelee’s Bright-voice is really the kind of Bright-voice that I always imagine. This fic is just wonderful, beautiful and a little angsty, but happy in the end.
