Brandywines!

The Brandywines have finally ripened and ooooh-sweet-Jeebus are they delicious! I can't get enough.

As for the garden, the lack of rain lately has definitely taken its toll.  We've missed a few big storms in the past few weeks by just a few miles.  Last Thursday, it was pelting down in what could modestly be described as a downpour when we left work, and when we got home (just 25 miles north) it hadn't rained there at all.

The cukes were a huge disappointment and are going to be pulled up ASAP.  The zucchinis produced but not prolificly.  We have a bunch of those bizarre zucchini-pumpkin (?) hybrids which are tasty but I'm sick of cooking them already.  The lawn is turning brown, as it always does in August.  The only rainbow chard that made it is still too small to harvest, which makes me think that it will taste awful.  The carrots are still TINY, which makes no sense.  Only the weeds are really growing this season.

Let's hope the fall garden treats us better!
