WOooot.
So first things first, last tuesday I dropped my mobile phone into a drain that was filled with running raniwater as it was in the middle of a storm, and then I had to just get in the car and leave. I only managed to retrieve it the afternoon afterwoulds, so it is in critical condition. After some tender kitchen towelling and resussitation via the hairdryer, some brief moments of life flooded back (enough for me to receive your text, Neil, but not long enough for me to send one back). It has now been taken by another teacher to a shop to see if it can be opened up to be cleaned/dryed out inside and maybe return to it's former life. We've all got our fingers crossed. Be strong, my hardy little Samsung, my strong!
Moving on, I do like CHiangmai, it is a nice city. This weekend, Jess and Sanaa came from Prae and we managed to meet up with them. We went to see Shrek the Third at the cinema with them and Bpoi, which was actually surprsingly very funny, I was laughing out loud a lot. We then went to the night market, and I bought some sebai pants, finally, so that Im' not continuing to wear holes in my only other pair of three quarterlengths. New trousers are very comfy ^___^ Bpoi gave us a lift back, which was niiice, and meant that for that night, at least, we did not have to pay extortionate late night taxi fees. Sunday, of course, was another matter.
On Sunday, we went out to Wat U-mung again, which was just as lovely, and this time I took my beasty camera and had fun taking photos. It was a bit more crowded than last time, but we saw the BIGGEST turtle/terrapin type thing in the lakey bit. Like HUUUGE. Maybe two feet long? Mental. We had some nice cake and dried pinapple and were on our way. Jess and Sanaa had to catch their bus home, but Verity of China GAP was in Chiangmai, so Chloe and I met up with her for the day. We spent far too much money on food and drink and a ridiculously expensive netbar, nad then we went to the big sunday night market, which was indeed, as advertised, HUGE. I managed not to buy anything, though the temptation was certainly there. Why are tehre all these shopping oppurtunities when I have no money?
Chloe and I have implemented a vague budgetting system where we have a calender to keep track of how much we spend each day. The weekend was ridiculously expensive, but this week, so far, so good. We've been doing cooking, and have now branched out from chicken and tofu to pork. Our knowledge of what thins to add for flavour are limited, but we strive on. Also we have managed to make our weekly shop last all week, save buying meat which we can't keeop for a week anyway. Ajan Aruni has also been keeping us stocked with bread, should we run out. Yay for Aruni.
On Tuesday evening we were invited to a Very Posh Gathering by the British embassy in Chiangmai in celebration of the Queen's birthday. It was very nice, lots of very good food, Chloe got the wine she has been hankering after for a while now (and consequentally a bit tipsy). We got to speak to some important sounding people, and met Victoria and Alica's link teacher, who was quite lovely. Yaaay! We ate a lot of free food. And it was good. Free fruit juice too. Score. Gerneally a very pleasant evening, had it not been preceeded but pandemonium over finding something smart enough to wear, altering/adjusting my dress/Chloe's dress/a HUGE FAT STORM startnig jsut as we had to leave, and then dropping my mobile phone downt eh drain. Oh well. I didn't panic! So I think I deserve some kind of star.
I'm still loving teaching. My kids are lovely, and it's generally quite fun to teach them, although as I begin to take more control of the class, I realise I can't reall control them. Yaaay small children. My pratom 3's are mental. Like actually mad. I've probably mentioned it before, but they ust go on proving it. Silly little things. Today Iw as hanging the washing out and our washign line bit is right opposit/same floor as Pratom 3 select 2, and I just had students yelling HELLOOOOO for about 5 minutes without getting boerd. Crazies.
Today we had crackling at lunch. Yaay for the Thai's having crackling. And also serving it at school. Winner. Also the icecreams that Chloe and I realy like are currently paired together as buy oen get one free. WINNER.
I'm planning on cutting all my hair off this weekend, as besides being semi-bored, I need to sort my eczema out properly. So yes. I'm quite excited. Yay haircut! Out come the scissors.
I think that is all for now. I'm missing you all greatly, and if I'm nto responding to your texts/etc it's because my phone is currently in ICU. ne ka?
Lots of love and such,
Hannah xxx
