Children praised for the effort they put into their work, especially schoolwork, do better on tests and everything else than those praised for their intelligence. Effort is something the child can control; intelligence isn't. Praising effort rather than intelligence gives the child more confidence and determination to succeed at whatever task is before him than praising intelligence.
