There's not really words to describe how full and great this past weekend was. Suffice to say...
Friday was the symphony, and every time I go to see live music, I'm reminded how, on a fundamental level, recordings just can't compare. Heinz Hall acoustics are amazing, and the musicians took care of their own volume control, able to be quiet or to fill the space and blow you away. There were times I was simply moved to tears by the beauty of what I was hearing. And after the intermission, I was able to move up to where Anne, Jen and her dad were sitting, and we all totally grooved to Rhapsody in Blue. I bet the people sitting on either side of us were quite amused at us rocking out. But when the rhythm takes over, I really just can't stop my body from moving, or at least my feet and hands. I don't know how all those other people in the theater were so still.
OMG Rhapsody in Blue!!
I also was really moved by the final piece in the program, "Galway Fair," which I assume was written for Sir James Galway. They pulled out an entire flute choir for it, and it was so...well. Like being lifted up through clouds and carried on the winds. There was no better way to describe it.
Saturday I woke up at noon, and watched the newest Avatar episodes (which hadn't been recorded on the DVR, but luckily it was available through Comcast On Demand), while my breakfast/lunch consisted of yogurt and strawberries :) Then I did a Critters critique, finished the latest Popsicleman comic, and read some other writing in preparation for the writing party in the evening. And...OMG. Such a great writing party! On my own part, I wrote very little--maybe 3/4 of a page. But I worked on Popsicleman, helped critique Jen's dad's work in progress (I am soooo curious to see where it goes!), and got my latest chapter read and commented on. That was good--I got some great and helpful comments, and am very much reassured about my mega-epic combat scene. Then we rounded off the evening with a break to walk to Get-Go, and then to laugh over Atlanta Nights for a bit :)
Actually, the writing part of this weekend deserves its own entry, so look for that later!
Sunday morning was the first Sunday I sang with the choir, and it was good :) The pipe organ is sooo amazing, and amazingly big! When you go up into the choir loft, it's just incredibly overwhelming that these dozens of gigantic pipes spread out over the entire back wall are part of one single big instrument. And choir--it just makes me happy :) It's a little frustrating because we move so fast through our songs, so it's like, you blink, and they're gone. All the same, I love the experience of singing, so I guess I just have to get in shape and stay on my toes.
Later, Brian and I cleaned the bathroom, since last weekend's apartment-cleaning was tragically cut short due to my sudden fever. It's strange to say, but it did make me feel good, since I do like the feeling of accomplishment when cleaning a room. And between the two of us, we got the whole thing scrubbed top to bottom in a record 45 minutes. We also had a chance to take a walk along Murray Avenue, and we got ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery and checked out the Barnes and Noble. I've been struck lately by a strong desire to start a new book, since I've been picking at Little Women for months now, broken up only by some manga. The only downsides of the day were my AIM suddenly not wanting to recognize chat rooms, and a conversation with the parentals on the phone.
So...overall, the weekend was quite spiff-tastic :) Lots of great times spent with friends and loved ones, lots of art and creativity enjoyed, and lots of other random stuff accomplished. Yay!
