Books, and Nano 2012

Hurricane Sandy hit the Pittsburgh area on Monday night. We were late getting in, due to my bus passing me by, Brian having to do a detour to pick me up, and then a lengthy grocery run. But eventually we were in the house, our groceries were packed away, and I was able to curl up in the den with a blanket and my new copy of The Girl Who Fell Beneath Fairyland and Led the Revels There. I'm already a few chapters in, and enjoying it; I can't help picturing Fairyland Below with a sort of blacklight glow.

Then I started to get a little sleepy, and was tempted to huddle up under the blanket and hug the book like a stuffed animal and close my eyes. But then I realized I couldn't do that, because I did not know the book well enough to hug it. That would be like hugging a stranger, with whom you've only exchanged some mild pleasantries and whom you are just getting to know.

Weird, huh?

Well, it looks like it's Nanowrimo time again (and it seems that Nano is really the main thing that I keep using this journal for...). This year, considering everything going on with the house, and my current where-I-am, I am going to do a NaNoProMo, focusing on moving Mae out the door, along with some more short stories. I've wrapped up a few stories and cleared them off my plate, so if the muse decides to drop something new in my plate, my head is clear. But I'm not gonna look for it, I'm just going to focus on what I already have in front of me that needs to be edited, polished and/or submitted.

-Send out Mae Fortune to at least four agents
-Submit five short stories
-Do four writing exercises/prompts, unless the muse bestows a larger story
-Edit three short stories

There, we'll see how that goes!
