Reading: Perdido Street Station for my online book club. I've been semi-curious about this one for a while now, but my only hesitation was that the writer was known for a particularly gritty style, and I'm not always one for pages of descriptions of filth and gore and scatology. However, the graphicness is not as bad as I thought it was (so far), and the plot is pulling me right through (so far)!
Writing: Completed the second draft of the Tanna story! In exactly two and a half months, no less! That was longer than I'd hoped, but still a vast improvement over the last time (Mae's second draft took a year). Next goals: return to the Sira novel, both research and writing; and do a second draft of the Unicorn story sometime within the next month. That said, there's no rush. Time to ruminate, clear my mind, etc. It's not like I don't have a thick book and a webcomic to keep me busy. Oh yeah, and MOVING, because...
Apartment: Brian and I have picked out a new place! Still have yet to see how all the expenses will fall out, but from the get-go, the rent here is $200 cheaper than what the Wendover would have charged us for a renewal. The place is only a block and a half away from where we are, and we have the entire month of June to move stuff over, so that should make things easy. Pros: completely new kitchen and dining room, good location, nice building, all new windows, nice bathroom in a snazzy teal color. Cons: Parking will be tricky, and the place is a bit smaller than our current apartment, so we'll have to put at least a few large pieces of furniture into storage. What can I say--it's only for a year, or until Brian and I buy a house, whichever comes first. We'll make it work!
