Blood Sugar Fiasco

Yesterday was a bad day for me physically. I was in the middle of Wal-mart when I began to feel awful. I could barely stand up because I felt so sick to my stomach, and I am very surprised I managed to walk straight. My head was killing me. It felt like I had three heads, like when people are dizzy and see three overlapping objects instead of the one that really is there. And it is close to impossible to concentrate when your head feels that way. Everything had a smell, and that smell was nauseating. I had to leave the food area of the store, because I thought I was going to throw up.

This was only the second time in my entire life I felt this way. The other was in college when my blood sugar skyrocketed and then plummeted in the middle of my Introduction to World Religions class. (I thought I was dying when it happened.) This time was not as bad: I could still function (somewhat), I knew what was wrong this time, and how to fix it. I took one Excedrin migraine (for the caffeine), parked the car in a small parking lot in front of the Christian bookstore (in Central Park), and laid down in the passenger seat of the car with my feet up on the dash. After about ten minutes, I no longer felt like I was going to throw up and managed to down a huge jug of ice water. After another fifteen minutes, I was almost back to normal and decided to visit Wegman's (a grocery store with a cafe) to get something to eat and more water.

When it comes to blood sugar, it is amazing how quickly you can go from feeling normal to feeling like you are dying to back to feeling normal. I am so thankful that I am not diabetic or usually having blood sugar problems. I know what caused the episode in college (I drank Mount Dew right before class, and since I never drank Mount Dew before, the immense amount of sugar did me in), and I think the episode yesterday may have been caused by the sauce I had with my tofu, broccoli, and garlic mix I had for lunch.

I was quite relieved to be back to normal and even stopped by an unfinished furniture store, Good Wood, on the way home. I am on the look out for bedroom furniture - the whole shebang: desk, dresser, bookshelves, night stands, headboard, etc. I found the perfect desk made from parawood (rubberwood). It is actually a small bar-table, but it is the perfect depth and length, nothing to crowd in the legs, and simple design. Since it is a bar-table, it is higher than a normal desk, but I love higher tables. (Weird?) The store also has the perfect barstool to go with it, and it is sooo comfortable. I will be going back tomorrow to buy them cheaper during the Memorial Day sale.

Unfinished furniture is great. Not only to do you get quality, solid-wood furniture, but then you can decide what color to paint or stain it. Since my room is dry-brushed gold gloss over white, it has a soft golden color to it. So I am going with goldish-beige neutrals for fabrics with pops of deep, burgundy red and burnt orange with pillows and throws. For furniture color, I want a dark, dark brown. So I will stain the desk and chair Java. link) I'm so excited!
