Christmas Countdown: 20 December 2008

Happy Saturday, friends! Only 4 shopping days remain until Christmas morning...better get out there and make the most of it if you're still in need of gifts. San Diego has been awfully cold this week and it would seem that the rest of the nation is following suit - keep your gloves and scarves handy so's you don't catch a chill out there!

As for today's entry, let's take a look at the latest in a long line of 'Storybook'-style candy presentations. The most familiar is probably the Lifesavers Sweet Storybook; you know, the little cardboard book that opens up to reveal some illustrations and 6 or 8 rolls of Lifesavers? Of course you know what I'm talking about. In the past few years this concept has been expanded to everything from M&M's to Rolos to Nerds. Never, though, in a million years, would I have expected to see that most obscure of confections, the darling of Little League concession stands, Fun Dip, in a storybook-shaped box.

And there it was! Fun Dip! You know how it works, right? There's a pouch full of sugary powder on one side and a white stick that's made of chalk, for all we know, on the other. The idea is to lick the white stick, jam it into the powder and roll your spit-laden candy-grabber around to pick up the delicious Fun Dust. Transfer the Fun Powder to your mouth, lick the stick clean, repeat. This is fun, right? Fun? Anybody?

Look how much fun I'm having! FUN DIP! This hasn't turned out to be very Christmassy...I guess it makes a good stocking stuffer, or one of those fun little candy presents you find all over the living room on Christmas morning...but only if you like Fun Dip. So if you haven't had this strange treat in a while, it may be worth checking out. Otherwise, stick to the Chocolate Oranges. That's all I've got on Fun Dip...anybody wanna share a Fun Dip-related story? Help me out here!

I don't know where Leon's is at, but he sure knows how to make a cute Christmas commercial. Little kids talking about Santa? How can you go wrong? "Santa eats three things a day - cookies, and cookies." Awwwwww...say what you will, but that's pretty dang cute. Enjoy, folks - I'll be traveling home for Christmas vacation tomorrow, so the next update may be delayed by a few hours. Keep your Santa hats on - it'll be there! Have a great weekend!
