Christmas Countdown: 18 December 2008

Dec 17, 2008 23:58

Happy Thursday from San Diego! It's cold all over the country and, for once, my normally-sunny city is no exception. It's chilly and rainy and generally miserable here in southern California. But neither rain now snow nor sleet nor hail can slow down Christmas morning, so let's get busy with today's entry. Time to salute the Cap'n!

Christmas Crunch! It should be noted that this cereal doesn't play the political correctness card when it comes to names - it's not 'Holiday Crunch', it's not 'Non-Denominational Celebration Flakes' - it's straight up 'CHRISTMAS Crunch' and, whatever your religious affiliation, you've got to admire the Cap'n for sticking to his guns. Name aside, this is essentially just your standard Crunch Berries cereal with some green star-shaped bits thrown into the mix. There's no denying that it looks sharp, but how does it taste?

Yeah, it tastes like regular old Crunch Berries. And lemme tell ya, if you haven't had a bowl of Cap'n Crunch in a while, it's pretty damn good. It had been a while myself and I was pleasantly surprised. So get our your favorite cereal bowl and fill your morning with Christmas spirit in the form of Crunch Berries!

So, I was able to find a commercial to go along with today's countdown entry! I remember this being on TV - I only wish I could remember what that 'secret present' on top of each box contained. A toy car? A tiny doll? An official Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time? Probably not, but that would have been nice. Cap'n Crunch takes it upon himself to travel around the world in his sleigh distributing red and green Crunch Berries to all the children. Like he says, this stuff is only available until Christmas, so act fast if you want some! Then again, it'll probably be on super-clearance the day after at your grocery store, so if you don't mind waiting until January to stuff yourself with green Crunch Berries, wait a minute. But don't expect a 'secret present' on top - that trend stopped in 1991. Bah humbug!

Stay warm out there!
