UHM SO I HAVE A PROBLEM

SO
I had this crazy idea while talking to someone
about a pokedex.
That has an AI so advanced you'd SWEAR it was human.
Well that's probably because it IS based on a human.
This particular human has pretty much disappeared to all that wish to find him.

The fun twist that I wasn't sure I wanted to say, but is that that human bugged this pokedex so he ( Read more... )

help me out dammit, y/n/stfu/wtf?

So TL;DR are you asking if it's okay to bring in a distorted Pokedex with the whole BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU premise and who belongs to a trainer off-island?

Is it too farfetched of an idea?
My first idea was just having an AI pokedex, but I don't know if that really counts as a character. :/ Then when adding more I've made it too complicated, haven't I?

Admittedly, I'm not sure whether to give the go-ahead or not. On one hand the whole HAI GUISE I CAN SEE YOU BUT YOU CAN'T SEE ME HA HA HA SUCK ON THAT idea could prove for massive lawls and WTF and all around good times for the muns but not the characters.

On the other hand there's the fact that it's not a human character or a Pokemon. Also with Awesome Island characters do not know about it until he/she/it/nuke physically gets there themselves. Should they find a way off he/she/it/nuke either forgets about their experiences completely or, in very rare cases, remember them but due to the islands nature find it impossible to talk about it. You were probably unaware of that and because of that I do apologize; I am working on a revamped explanation of the island's demographics as the first one was too plain and left too many questions unanswered ( ... )

Yeah I agree with this. No one is supposed to be aware of or know of the Island unless they're actually on it, so it'd be weird he was transmitting a signal through wherever he was. It'd be better if your OC was hiding somewhere on the Island being a hilarious creeper.

I was really excited over this idea, I didn't think on it properly. It would be strange if he had a connection to a place no one is supposed to know about it and- yeah. That wouldn't work at all.

And really though, he's doesn't use it maliciously.
It's just that the trainers that use it can connect to all kinds of info that he can't get access to while he's hiding. They keep the pokedex updated with software and he can access that software, and the interactive AI gives him a way to try and communicate if he wants something more direct.

I plan to have a lot of just the quirky AI, but he gives the quirky AI direction on to 'ways' to talk to the trainer, he doesn't talk through it all so often.

So it's mostly the AI, but the AI would be nothing without him. This is where this is getting problematic.

So it's okay if I "brought him in", but didn't officially play/use him until I needed to. He's just hiding like a pro?

It sounds like he's still going back and forth between the Island and his world, though.

It does?

Oh, I was describing the way in which he used it in his world. I'm trying to say when he gets here, his first reaction would ofcourse be to let someone pick the dex up to figure out what is going on, but he's not totally going to use it for trolling purposes.

Okay, this took me a few times to read over as, being a Brit, it's past midnight and I'm starting to tire.

This is probably going to sound like a contender for Stupid Question of the year, but how often do you think you would be roleplaying this AI? An entry every-so-often? Appearing on characters entries a few times a week? Me being me, I am worried that this will start a surge of objects coming to the DR. It more than likely won't but that is my nature. My overactive imagination, I am showing you it.

Yet the AI does have a character behind it and you seem fine with him being on the island "hiding like a pro".

I am leaning towards yes, although if you could still answer my question that would be great.

It's not a stupid question, I understand your worries.

I am not a superbly active person, and I was more attracted as the idea of it. This would work the most if someone started to use the dex as their own, but I realize that's not something I should be doing, being dependent on another character.

I think,
that I should probably refine this more. I was ready to jump in there, but I see that I haven't thought about it properly.
This device should be attached to the hidden OC, not the hidden OC attached to it.

I can see your worry about objects being considered characters. Because conceivably a lot of objects could have "personalities".

I won't do this for now, I think.
But if I came back with the character more fledged out, could I still use this as a tool?
