Huh. From what I remember of the NIMH series (which is not much), I half-expected there to be talking Pokemon. I'm actually rather disappointed by this.
Talking Pokemon would have made it better.

NIMH is a book "The Secret of NIMH" about a bunch of scientist (or maybe one really bored one, I can't remember) who taught rats to read and talk. It seems sorta silly, but by comparison to Pokemon...
There are also several movies out there.

Technically speaking, NIMH is the National Institute of Mental Health, a real government organization that, as its name would imply, executes studies for mental health.

I'm kinda shocked by the people who don't recognize it; I thought at the least that the book (Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH) was required elementary school reading. Maybe it was just my school. The movie based on it -- The Secret of NIMH -- was one of Don Bluth's earlier works when he disconnected from Disney, and is considered a classic; the storyline is a little meandering and the plot kind of loses itself sometimes, but Bluth re-introduced a lot of animation techniques that were rapidly becoming lost, and it's really a gorgeous film, well worth watching ( ... )
