So... my friend, her boyfriend, and I were all thoroughly disappointed when we heard that, being Canadians we would not be able to get Darkrai.
but we did not despair long. No. Instead we planned a ROAD TRIP! and went to some pokémon event in some town in the state of New York.
We start off this glorious adventure with Mikor forgetting her passport. So we go to Tim Horton's then drive back to my apartment... and grab my passport. Which is super important cuz A) I'm the only one who can drive. and B) I'm the one that planned this thing and I want darkrai in my main party.
So then we settle in for the Hour and a half drive to the border... only to realize 20 minutes in that the highway we were on splits and we took the wrong split. (damn you QEW/403) so we turn around... and go the right way! Talking about EV training... and if we think we can get more than one darkrai.... how we all have more than one copy of the game so if it's saved to the cartridge and not to the DS then we can get a couple each.... All sorts of exciting stuff.
We get to the border and the Customs guy is kinda confused when we tell him we're going to the States for the 'Nintendo Even at ToysRUs ... cuz Nintendo hates Canadians and never have these events in Canada' but he lets us through anyways (phew!) And now we're getting SUPER excited.
until Mikor was almost turned around by the SUPER HIGH THIN SCARY BRIDGE right after the tollbooth on the 405 I believe it was.... Mikor is totally afraid of heights you see.... but I gripped the steering wheel and kept talking about Darkrai... and made it over! YAY!
and then there was a SECOND bridge even HIGHER than the first... and even scarier... but somehow I made it over that one too... (darkrai adrenaline ftw?)
Then we miss our exit and take the next one... have to turn around... man your traffic lights are weeeiiiird. we have bright yellow backings on ours so we can see them clearly... and they're like right in front of you and really easy to view... the traffic lights in this place were strung diagonally across the road and just... weird. But enough of that. We stop off at Alice's Kitchen (or something like that) and eat the most scrumptious pancakes I've had in FOREVER (it was like way after lunch by this time and I was staaarving) and then we go to the ToysRUs!!
but we see Circuit city! And remembering the total deals I read about on lj pokémon comm we just HAVE to go in to see if there are any cheapie emeralds.... but of course they're all sold out.
so then. we enter toys r us. and man this place is HUGE! nothing like the toys r us here.... there's like a GAME section.... our game section is games/music/movies all in one... and it's so crammed the aisles are small and there's no way we could all just stand around hanging out ... like we did. We ask the guy how it's done... he shows us... we all get our darkrais. Then we start talking to him about how many he thinks we can get. He tells us he thinks only one... but if we can find a way to get more than one... by all means we should totally go for it.
So, I can't restart either of my games, cuz one is my game and the other one is the used game I just got from EBGames and it has a hacked CELEBI on it... and some other ones that I can't get in any other way.... but my friends both have second games that they just started... so they trade pokémon to me, and I became the Noah's Ark of Darkrai.... seriously. they restarted their games and got the getting the pokédex down to 12 minutes of gameplay... so we restarted their games, each time trading darkrai to me... and we managed to do that a couple of times before 4pm rolled around and they took away the wi-fi thing. but now we each have a couple of Darkrai!!!
we were hanging out in the Union Room and some random guys came in to get their Darkrai... they were super nice, we looked at each other's trainer cards and I wonder how shocked they were to see 'You are looking at Mikor form Ontario, Canada's trainer card!'
The ToysRUs employee was all cool with us standing around restarting the game getting as many as we could... especially when we explained that we drove all the way from Canada cuz Nintendo sucks and refuses to have these events in Canada....
so it was like 2 1/2 hour drive one way total.... and that prolly includes the amount of time we spent at the border... well maybe it was 3hours total with the stop at the border. And on the way back we ate at an American Swiss Chalet (which totally got rid of all their vegetarian meals from their menu.... o_O ) and then drove home and watched The Rise of Darkrai!!!
now I just gotta figure out which of my pokémon I wanna EV Train!
