I've decided to go and snatch Cresselia. A while ago, somebody here commented on some reply to some post of some sort, and described a (supposedly) fool-proof method to trigger an encounter during normal gameplay which works for all roaming legendaries. (Please raise your hand if it was you ( Read more... )

And, if you use a repel it'll guarantee you encounter the Cresselia, and not some random encounter Pokemon. Don't use the repel until you're on the same route as the critter, though. :)

Oh, and something else. I read this somewhere, but can't vouch for the validity...

Supposedly, with Legendaries, you don't want to completely knock down their HP like you would a "normal" Pokemon. Ideally you hammer it down between 2/3 and 1/3 of their full HP, and they're significantly easier to catch.

Thanks for the tip. I wasn't sure wether I should use one (might repel her as well) so I didn't and I was lucky enough to encounter has instead of a bidoof. :D

So how tough was it to catch?

I had a hell of a time when I went after it...

Not hard at all since I used a Masterball. :D However, it has a catch rate of 3, which means it is one of the hardest pokémon to catch (along with most other legendaries and the Beldum family).

haha lucky you. I used my masterball on Dialga. I think I threw ~20+ different Pokeballs at Cresselia before I finally caught it (with a premiere ball, no less. I was getting pissed and just started throwing everything at it...)

I managed to catch a few Beldums during a swarm (used them for breeding up a monster for Metagross). They were a PITA too... :)

I can't remember where my original masterball went (probably one of the lake trio, because I was getting frustrated after battling it 234752 times). I imported this one from FireRed along with some pokémon not obtainable in this generation. ^_^

I haven't caught a Beldum yet. They just make me swear a lot and then they're like "my PP is up, I'll just kill myself in a futile attempt at attacking you. Cheers!"

Yeah, they were difficult. Mespirit especially (the other two weren't quite as annoying). Cresselia was definitely the worst... worse than Giratina even.

Training the Beldum up was fun too... :P Take Down for 20 levels. WEEEEE.

Those all have the same catch rate, if I'm not mistaken, but yeah, Mesprit was the most annoying. He just kept dying.

Oh, don't you just LOVE having to train for ages before something evolves? I'm currently filling up my 'dex and those pokémon that don't reach their final evolved form untill L50+ drive me crazy.

Yeah, some of them are annoying. It sort of depends how much I care about building them up. I've been EV training some, so they take a while.

If I just want the evolved critter for Pokedex reasons, I'll throw an Exp Share on them and fight stuff for the most exp. :)

I do that too. It's perfect for pokémon who evolve early on, but it still takes ages for ones that evolve late. D: By the time they reach ~L40 it's quicker to train them the regular way.
