Figure-eights and sharp skates~

[Ah, wintertime~! It's a new year and a certain pink-haired sprite feels quite energetic lately. There's nothing wrong with tackling something new to start things off, right ( Read more... )

Have an N, Mesprit. ♥ centrifuged January 2 2011, 21:54:39 UTC
[Ah~! That actually looks rather fun - N hasn't exactly tried it before, especially as he usually finds himself doubtful of the thickness of the ice on small lakes like this, but since the island has provided skates, and the girl on the lake seems to be enjoying herself even when she falls...well! Something about her joy seems oddly infectious, and in the end, N really doesn't see why not. So, one adventure in skate-lacing and several moments of hesitation later, you have N joining you on the ice, Mesprit.

Well. He's...sorta joining you, given that people aren't usually used to compensating for there suddenly being no traction whatsoever and as a result he's not so much skating yet as he is pushing off gingerly from the side and flailing a bit as he tries to keep his balance, eventually sliding to a stop partway across and looking like the most accomplished person in the world for his effort, his face lightly flushed as he looks down at the ice ( ... )

[It's hard, ain't it?

Well, Mesprit takes a notice to this ice newbie, and decides that it might be fun to... give him a bit of a push. No, really. A PUSH FROM BEHIND.]

Here you go~! Now, just move your feet, almost like you're walking!

[Don't worry! She'll join you by holding your hand if you want.]

[You say that like she has an option! Haha...no, really, N will just be making an oddly frenzied, wide-eyed grab for her hand at the feeling of her moving around to his side after that push, though he doesn't drag her down in an attempt to get his balance; he...surprisingly has that, it's just more of a reassurance thing. Right? Right. Of course it is.

Yikes.

...that said, the "whee" tag on this entry is actually quite appropriate. It's sort of fun, really, once your mind wraps itself around the concept that no matter how slick the surface might be, it's still able to control your body well enough to not let you end up on your face.

K-Kinda shaky movement is go!]

Ah. Well, thank you.

[His tone is polite, though not insincerely so; he normally might have been a bit iffy about someone making contact with him like that, but he's actually feeling...pretty inexplicably content around her. But even without that odd, happy feeling he's getting, she seems...familiar, somehow. Not like most of the humans he speaks to - more like a friend ( ... )

[Aw, he won't drag her down; Mesprit has pretty good balance, so she might be able to help. Nothing wrong with assisting a new friend!

And yes, Whee is a very good word for times like this. The Island needs more of them.]

It's no problem! It's more fun when you're moving! [Smiles and laughter, that's all there is. As for the hand holding, the sprite doesn't mind! Better to have a back-up for when things go wrong... or to join you if you fall.

Yeah, and those tails of hers... they are still totally out there.]

Is this your first time skating too?

[Well, that's true. At the same time, he assumed at a distance that they were part of her clothes; some sort of straps that he wasn't quite seeing properly, perhaps thick ribbons for decorations. And now that they're up close, uh...staring at that general area of a girl's anatomy is one of those things that he's pretty sure is Not Okay to do casually. Or at the very least, it got a fair amount of lineface from Father when he noticed others doing it, and he had expressed a desire for N to "not be anything like that."

Whatever that meant.]

It is, actually. I've often seen people do it, but I had never tried myself until just now. You looked as though you were enjoying yourself very much, though; I didn't realize it was your first time as well.

[The most she'll do if she notices that gaze is just blush. Eh, who cares if she's about to get married and stuff, right?

If she were a normal girl, it wouldn't be right at all. Then again, Mesprit's no ordinary girl.]

It is a new year, so I thought trying something new would be good. I'm not sure exactly why skating was on my mind... [Secretly she's blaming Candice...] ...but once I stepped out, it just... felt almost like gliding or floating on the ice. If you want, maybe I can help you practice?

[Being so light on her feet must help. Following the curve now? oh god it's like a skate rink.]

[Well, yes, but it's still a bit rude; perhaps he'll check later, once he's a bit less prone to wanting to cling for dear life.

Right now, however, he seems weirdly pleased by getting the hang of this...oh wow a curve this is going to go strangely - ]

I think I would like that...yes, I would like that ve - ah!

[...well, at this point it's becoming fairly obvious that whatever he would like, he kinda needs that very much, given that he's misjudged the angle there. Followed by an overcorrection. Followed by him hoping that you have better balance than he does, because he's suddenly rather up close and personal with the ice.

A quick spot-check is enough to let him know that nothing's injured - except his pride, perhaps.]

[Had he kept going straight... Well, N would have probably been face-planting in the snow. Following a curve is normal, but she's never done one with a partner before... Oh dear, he's going to fall, isn't he?]

...Oof!

[Yeah, even she got pulled down onto the ice, though Mesprit probably did it on purpose; something about falling just makes her burst into laughter once again, though it reaches a calm once she focuses on her companion.] A-are you okay?
