I think plot wise the 2 movies are somewhat similar but how they're told are very different. I think LA Confidential is much more refined than SK. But being a big fan of The Shield I also like SK even though Shield also is more raw and not making excuses for the wrong doings of the main characters. I like that.

yeah, that is true. It was more gritty and intense, or at least in different ways, but in the end, it was pretty much the same themes.
