Despicable Me and Movie Quiz - Day 12 - A film that permanently altered your point-of-view

Jul 25, 2010 16:46

Firstly, I went to see Despicable Me today - most exciting thing about this is that it was the first time I saw a movie in the movie theatre with my niece.  Yay!!  So exciting!  :D

The movie itself was ok.  I feel like more time was spent making it look pretty than on the story.  It would've been great in 3D, I'm sure (we didn't see it 3D).  I think they lacked what Pixar/Disney movies are good at - pulling on heart-strings to make a more emotional story.  They could've made it more like that, but oh well.

And now to the daily movie quiz thing...

Day 12 - A film that permanently altered your point-of-view

Ben-Hur (1925)

As people well know by now, I'm sure, I love silent movies.  In fact, I have seen almost 40 silent films!  Alas, this never would've happened had my sister - great as she is - forced me to watch the silent film version of Ben-Hur from 1925.  I groaned and kicked up a stink because it was old and black and white and SILENT what the heck?!  Then...about 2-3 hours later I was so engrossed I had no idea how I could have kicked up a stink!

I do believe it was the first silent movie to have some colour in it (just one important seen) and the epic grandness of the movie is on par with the later version (frankly, I feel like some poor people were squished in the making of the '25 version in one particular scene, which makes it all that much more entertaining. :P  Ahhh silent movies, they really went crazy on the stunts back then without a care in the world for how much it'd hurt... - wait 'til we get to Day 28!).

And so that's how my view on silent films did a completel 180. =)
